How much power does the 2022 Honda CB500X make? We place the midsize adventure on the Cycle World dyno to find out.

The 2022 Honda CB500X is a friendly commuter with an adventure-bike twist, utilizing Big Red’s versatile midsize platform.

Powering the CB500X is Honda’s 471cc DOHC parallel twin engine, which is also seen in the standard CB500F and supersport-minded CBR500R variants. For 2022, the CB’s handling is improved with a 41mm Showa Big Piston Fork inverted fork that replaces a conventional fork and a secondary front brake caliper.

Ahead of an upcoming first ride review of the updated 2022 CB500X, we placed it on the Cycle World Dynojet 250i dyno, recording horsepower and torque figures. The CB500X produced 42.62 hp at 8,430 rpm and 29.26 pound-feet of torque at 6,520 rpm. A flat torque curve with over 25 pound-feet readily available from 2,500 rpm and linear power delivery with little over-rev makes for a flexible and friendly character in real-world situations.

Great power and delivery for daily riding, off-road, and blasts through the back road, while getting extremely good fuel economy.

My 500X has very good torque even at low revs, and the graph proves it. I've found that I can very easily keep it in 2nd gear at a stop light or stop sign in town, and just use 2nd gear only from one block to another. Can go 0-30mph in 2nd gear without even revving the engine hard, so it's a perfect gear for block-to-block around town. I've not revved mine high yet as it's still breaking in, but you can see that all the horsepower is at 7-8, 000 rpm.

Honda's CB500 series bikes have a fantastically flat power and torque profile... completely linear and predictable. 😉👍

That’s pretty impressive WHP, all things considered.

Honda should have released a 600cc engine on this bike with a restrictor kit for the A2 riders, then it would have ticked every box.

These are fantastic bikes, don't get me wrong, but Honda is seriously missing out on the lightweight ADV market by not making this platform into a more serious off road capable machine. The need to do like Triumph does with the Tiger 900 and offer the road going version like this and a longer travel model with 18/21 rims. I've been hoping for such a beast to be offered and Aprilia is now the closest with the Tuareg 660.

Was the redline raised for the 2022 model?? My '18 only revved up to 6k.
