Manfred Mann were an English rock band, formed in London in 1962. The group were named after their keyboardist Manfred Mann, who later led the successful 1970s group Manfred Mann's Earth Band. The band had two different lead vocalists during their period of success, Paul Jones from 1962 to 1966, and Mike d'Abo from 1966 to 1969.

The group were regularly in the UK charts in the 1960s. Three of the band's most successful singles, "Do Wah Diddy Diddy", "Pretty Flamingo" and "Mighty Quinn", topped the UK Singles Chart. They were the first southern-England-based group to top the US Billboard Hot 100 during the British invasion.

Listen to the simple catchy melody, gets you from the very start. Along with that the simple easy sing along lyrics. Very talented band for sure. Real singers/musicians singing / playing real music identified this era (British Invasion). Way way better than the garbage, mumbo jumbo churned out today for sure ..Peggy Wood (Aotearoa)

Manfred Mann is a really underrated Band. They had a special sound between rythem blues Jazz and beat. I always loved to hear it.

Mike D' Abo easily stepped into Paul Jones's shoes!... ...And if you notice Paul's career was stagnant from the moment he left, while the band continued to flourish!

According to Tom McGuiness, the band hated this version stating it was a rough demo which they intended to work on, make some changes but the Rec Co released it as is without their consent

Manfred Mann broke up shortly after this song became a hit because they were unable to dislodge the "pop image" they had

So many songs written about Mr/Miss etc. back then, but this one is actually rather pleasant, instaed of yet another grudgy, trippy rant about drug dealers and easy girlies. Not great, but good, so thanks for posting!

Ich glaube, dies war die allerletzte Single der Band.

Note Klaus' strange instrument of his own design, a Vootar, designed to be playable as both a guitar and bass. This is the first one, built by Vox.

Great tune. Looks like an 8 string Vox doing the Bass line.

Can't remember seeing an 8 string bass before.

The information in the description doesn't make sense in that they talk about their "Time of success" and name two singers during the 60's only. Yet in the mid 1970's they had what I would say was their biggest hit ever with "Blinded by the Light". Which was a huge! I think the same singer that was the keyboard player sang the 1970's hit as well but is only listed as singing for the group during the 60's? Maybe there's something I'm missing here but I don't know what.

Reminds me of many hobo types I've come across or observed. "Professors" of the street and frowned upon by people who (sometimes wisely) assert that "ignorance is bliss" Certainly not considered by the surrounding folk as eligible to be made an honorary "Colonel" of any town, city or province. When these ragamuffin types finish their journey, it'll usually be after they've pigged out on what's left of the scraps of societal derivative and excuse making and realize they were correct in the assertion that most of society is, (just as with politics), "dog eat dog". After such realization, they graduate, and society expects to then prepare a pauper's grave for them. But hey! What really is certain in this life?
