Hi Brandon, I'm about to set up my first Etsy shop. I'm an artist and I think a niche that I could do some really cool artwork in would be abstract animals. However, I'm interested in doing commissioned portraits too. Part of me is saying just put the portrait stuff on the backburner and focus on the abstract animals. But then another voice is saying but wait, if your abstract animals draw attention, wouldn't you also want to let people know that you can paint portraits? Especially since I can probably demand a higher price point with those. I'm thinking it shouldn't be too confusing since it's the same artist, and even from portraits to abstract animals there will be similarities in the styles, and from my experience portraits often seem like an impulse item anyways. In other words, people don't know they want one until they see an example that then starts their imagination going. - Please share your thoughts.
