This was a great play by Lin. Kobe doesn't mind deferring but when you don't hit your shots on a consistent basis, then it's a problem.

All Kobe ever wanted through these declining laker years was his teammates to step up. This was a glimmer of what could’ve been because Lin channeled his inner mamba mentality on this play. The willingness to be aggressive and make a play. You can even see it when Lin is explaining a play with Kobe and the look Kobe is giving. Kobe’s like “Thank God someone’s taking initiative, and showing me he can be the X factor” because Kobe wasn’t young anymore. He couldn’t do the things he used to do and he needed someone to show him that they wouldn’t be afraid to ball out. Like I said this was what could’ve been. Too bad the lakers roster from 2014-2016 was hit by age, injuries and poor chemistry. It would’ve been nice to see Kobe hold up that 6th ring but that doesn’t take away how great he was. Still my GOAT forever.

As you can see in 0:08 Griffin ignores Jordan Hill and is ready to double team Kobe, so Lin was trying to wave him off and signals Boozer to screen so that Hill can cut to the basket; but since it's only 8 or 6 sec left in the clock Lin had no choice but to take a desperation 3pt shot.
A bad play indeed, but hey Lin got the basket.
