Today we WANT to force a failure on the $199 harbor freight trailer to see what finally gives. Will we succeed, or will the superior chinese engineering and quality materials take more than we can dish out with this 700 horsepower RAM TRX?
We’ve been thrashing on this thing since 2016, accruing over 60,000 miles, the whole time waiting for the weak link on the trailer to give so that an assessment could be made for all you dirt lovin’ dudes out there who like having 100% of the fun for 20% of the cost, but the trailer has just been solid and I just got a larger trailer so I’m going to disassemble this one for parts. If we can’t break the trailer today, we will unfortunately never know what the weak link really is.

What fun! Now that is thorough test! I have a slightly larger one, 4' x 8', which I have been using for 15 years. Here are the problems I have had: 1-The stock fenders broke off after 5 years and I replaced them with somewhat better fenders, but I had to make brackets for it. 2-Hit a tire on the freeway at speed and bent the axle, resulting in two flats from way too much toe-in. A tire place bent it back into shape and have been using it for 7 more years. 3-Recently the frame started cracking just in front of the axle and I had to weld it bake together and added some angle iron braces.

I had the foldable one and one thing this trailer does not like is being submerged in pacific ocean (hauling jet skis). Fucked the bearings and that caused failure to one of the hub and axel. Paint started pealing off and loads of penetrating rust. Wiring is rubbish too. But after doing an improvised axel conversion and got some decent lights and a receiver (probably overkill) it was one of the best solutions out there.

i just bought the foldable 4x8 trailer and this gives me a sigh of relief, i ended up bolting and welding the trailer togther at all the joints, i still am able to fold the trailer for storage reasons. but this is great news for me!
