My Grandmother had a 504 Estate for about two decades. Known as *Hix* to all, she was sadly and with much anguish sold for scrap after the braking system failed; the bonnet badge lives on though.

In hindsight she could have been repaired instead, but my grandmother was poorly advised.

Great car though; not something that often be said of the Frenchies, but very true in this case.

A friend from Mali told me once that with spare parts of two old 504 an African smith can build a 505 :-)

My entire youth in Africa was spent on one of those, on highways to untared game farm roads. They just needed petrol or diesel.

Still own my Dads. Only used it for Holiday trips..1982...Mileage - 320000kms. We weren't allowed to drive it😢

Maybe non africans won't relate, but this beast -here in egypt- was till now one of the most used cars through history, specially in transporting interstates. We used to say in Egypt that if a 504 hit a wall, the wall will get hurt
