What’s crazy, even in slow mo, the airbags deploy almost instantaneously.

It's a good thing we have government regulations and requirements, as well as independent NCAP tests today. In this capitalist system, they are the foundation of our safety. Otherwise, manufacturers would put us in a tin cola can and charge us as if it were a car.

As much as I love a good ol’ Classic for these reasons I don’t really want to drive one much irl especially after I saw the 59’ Bel Air vs 09 Malibu crash test

You know after all these years that I've seen the crash test between that Malibu and that bel air I still hate the fact that they had to destroy that beautiful classic 1959 Chevy bel air

This isn't completely true and depends on fitness, if your body is fit and in good shape you will suffer less internal injury at higher speed. Race drivers with zero crumple zones in open wheel vehicles often survive high speed accidents, yes the harnesses are different but the sudden force applied to the body is the same.

The biggest difference is having a neck safety device, whether it be an airbag or a special racing device. airbags are not only to stop hitting the wheel/dash but can prevent necks breaking. Also modern cars don't allow the passenger area to deform.
