well at last i find someone who thinks direct flash has some use!!!

everybody seems to forget that direct flash was and still is just another source of light. It can provide a source of light for some situations that it is indeed very nice.
I think it needs to be correctly diffused, but that can be achieved with just a few bucks. HELL! There's even an aftermarket diffuser for popup flash that works correctly.

The problem is when everybody tries to teach the same thing across youtube "do portraits" "diffuse the background" "light source must be at 45° with another softer light bouncing" yea we get that... now try something different for a change.

Wow everytime i try a direct flash like that, the light flare of the flash gets into my lens, should i use lens hood instead?

right us photographer we care a lot for light quality but most client do not they just need an clear image thats it, ive learned that in 6 years of work

Direct flash also does well when shooting straight into the sun. To be clear, direct flash is what they are doing here but it is still OCF

Couldn't you get the same result if the flash was on a stand controlled via remote rather than buy extra gear?

We call it neked (naked) flash lol. It's especially useful during the day if you need more power from your flash.

Tbh those shots look a bit amateurish and it kinda bothered me that he didn't use a diffuser with the flash
