I read this book when it first came out in 2012 and absolutely loved it. I wanted to reread it a couple of weeks ago and was a little afraid I wouldn’t like it as much on a reread as I’ve read 100s of books since then. But I still absolutely loved it. Just such a short cozy read. The character dynamics is what makes or breaks this book though

I felt exactly the same with this book. I really liked Beartown though, although it starts very slow but it's worth it!

I feel you. I read The Midnight Library a few months ago....I felt NOTHING. Talk about over-hyped.
I will still get around to A Man Called Ove though, but i'll check those expectations based on your suggestion.

I haven’t read this one yet. I read “Anxious People” by Fredrik Bachman and I liked it.

I felt exactly the same. The nonstop lack of respect for boundaries from Ove's neighbours really grated at me and I couldn't stop thinking "well if your wife was so wonderful and empathetic, why would she have picked you in the first place?". I don't like this trope where a character really only loved their spouse and no one else in their life. That doesn't sound like an healthy relationship to me since true love actually teaches you to extend it to other people outside of your little cocoon. Maybe I could've forgiven it if Ove had been more fleshed out as a character, but yeah, it was also a miss for me (though I did tear up a bit at the end because I'm always moved by the innocence of children).

I've read tons of backman... I love him! I finally got around to this one, and was like... uh.... not his best. I dont understand why everyone acts like THIS is his best work. ive read better grumpy old man type stories, like... 3 better ones. lol

Agreed. I wanted to love it, but it ended up being a DNF.

Do you mind when Stephen King does it? Cause that narration style always irks me because it kills the suspense for me

That's a Shakespeare thing or, it's a not, I don't read King, so I might be think of Romeo and Juliet, type thing... when it's not that.
