Police violently battling murderous gangs. Endemic violence, extreme poverty, obscene wealth and corruption on all levels. Welcome to Port-Moresby, Papua New Guinea.

Last summer, a settling of scores between tribal clans left 32 dead. But that is nothing compared to what’s going on in the city. Here the police wage a merciless war against the Raskols gangs. In 2020, Port Moresby was ranked the 2nd most violent capital city in the world, just behind Caracas, Venezuela.

Women in particular pay a high price for this violence. 80% of men admit to beating their wives regularly. One in two women will be raped during their lifetime. There are only a few shelters they can turn to and their attackers are rarely prosecuted.

Corruption is also rife and for those with the right connections, PNG is an El Dorado. Thanks to its rich mineral deposits, the capital has experienced an unrivalled real estate boom in the past 10 years.

The guy with the machete robs the store and the people standing around don't react like it's anything abnormal. The adults don't reach for the children even after the second robber toting a gun comes in. It's just another day 😢

I befriended a Papuan police man that was stealing from me. And he explained he had no options as they hadn’t been paid in 3 months cause his police boss was stealing their wages…it’s a mess

My country like most countries in the world, there are beautiful places that you can explore and there are also bad places that you should stay as far away from over here.

As somone whose from papua new guinea and have lived here most of my life. This documentary is only about 30% correct. 70% of the information is mixed up and misplaced thoroughout the documentary. Also some of the footages used in this documentary is really old, they've been on youtube for a while. The country has changed a lot recently and is better of now than it was before. Great documentary but the information provided in this documentary is outdated and redundant.

Papua New Guinea is just like any other place on Earth. There're places you can go to and places you don't go to. All in all, you have nice folks and bad folks all over the world.

Que loucura. Estão contando todos os esquemas ilegais, sem nenhuma vergonha de esconder os rostos. Será que essas pessoas ainda estão vivas?

No wonder there is so much crime. Corrruption everywhere, the way the police acts innocents might be driven to crime. And when poor people see how the few rich thrive they get understandibly jealous. That leeds to crime. As long as the rest of the world looks away and destroys (like in many other countries, Borneo for example) the environment. It is just sad. I rather not speak about the tourists...

Congratulations on the courage of the people who filmed this documentary; thank you. I have experienced similar Corruption in the Solomon Islands.

It's always like this everywhere, people leave the countryside and go to the big city, generating more poverty, disorder and an increase in crime, of course there are exceptions, but history always repeats itself.

The underlying cause of all of the wildfires across the globe is from cutting down the old growth forests. This is because the old growth is resistant to fire.. The wind can't penetrate, and the canopy shades the forest floor.. The canopy is high, and the lower branches have fallen away, so there isn't a fire ladder.. With the big trees gone, the winds come in at ground level, the soil is dried out, and the trees themselves are dried out.. The dry conditions are killing many trees, and the fires are burning much of the remaining timber. The air pollution is causing many health problems.. The timber barons and their heirs should be held responsible...

Those cops who blindly arrested the innocent guy without a description or even seeing the footage. Typical behavior of many cops in developing countries I witnessed as one from there.

Man could live well together if his greed didn't take control of his life.

Corruption which is basically dishonesty plays a big part in any nations downfall.

The Good Book says, "many are called, but few are chosen".

We all will get the opportunity to meet our Maker one day, some to eternal life and many to eternal damnation. Choose well.

You can't expect a Stone Age people to run a functioning modern society. Europeans and Asians went through millennia of societal and technological transition and even today many countries are still little more than banana republics.
