One of the most common misconceptions regarding space is how our oceans’ tides work. Most people understand that they are affected by the Moon, and this is largely true. But many people are also mistakenly under the impression that the Moon is the only force acting on them.

Technically speaking, the tides are controlled by the gravitational pull of any nearby celestial bodies with enough size. While the Moon is indeed a very large mass and very close to us, it is not the only large object nearby. The Sun itself generates considerable tidal force upon the Earth.

It affects the tides in pair with the Moon’s effects, to a much greater degree when they are in alignment. However, while the Sun does affect the tides considerably, the Moon indeed has more influence on the tidal forces of the planet than the Sun does. This is because, despite the massive size difference, the Moon is so much closer.

One Thing You Didn’t Know About The Ocean Tides is that the Earth and Moon both orbit around a common centre of gravity, and it is this Inertial motion that causes the tides on the side away from the Moon.

Why does powerful gravitational forces from the sun/moon move huge bodies of water, and nothing on land, like a human being pulled or pushed over? Jk I Googled it, Earth tides, the land itself oscillates. Thank you for the thought provoking clip :)

I have a question though because you say that the moon has a bigger impact on the tide than the sun, but I look up gravitational force between earth and sun compared to earth and moon and it says the sun and earth has a greater force. Any explanation for why the moon has a greater impact if it has less force?

If gravitational pull of moon (let's say) causes ocean tides then the earth also has its gravity
So why doesn't all the water get attracted towards the earth

The moon pulls the earth's double torus mangetosphere & oceans out & around he planet east to west. As the fermie cells of the earth's OOrt cloud magnetosphere increases so to does the size of the tides.

As the Earth's double donut magnetosphere increases due to it's orbits precessing across the Sun's magnetic equator so to does the tides.

Bro but how...no way ..this has been always my doubt..and lets say if this is done, then why not they r attracting all the birds in the sky or the atmosphere of earth...this is why i feel, it is wrong concept...!!
