Gaming Pastime reviews Star Fox 2 for Super Nintendo.

Developed by Nintendo EAD and Argonaut Software and published by Nintendo, Star Fox 2 was originally developed for the Super Nintendo but was not official released until 2017 on the Super NES Classic Edition. Star Fox 2 refines some things and introduces several cool new ideas. It's only a shame it took so long to be officially released.

Fuck Nintendo for holding this game back. I've played through this game probably 6 times and I'll probably never get tired of it. 10/10 for sure.

Absolutely love this game even though I didn't grow up with the original! It's amazing just how ambitious & ahead of it's time it was, with SO many incredible features that never made it into the later Star Fox installments. Also, Fay and Miyu are by far my favourite Star Fox character designs, and it's criminal that they never returned. As great as 64 & Assault are, THIS is my favourite in the series, despite the inaccurate D-Pad controls, and slow framerate!

I've never really been a Nintendo fan but have always wondered about Star Fox.

Again, this game was supposed to be played on SNES...A console with only 2D games.
The fact it "works" blows my mind, even more considering the real time RTS gameplay during fights.

Also, exterior enemies can join a battle you're in if it is happening on their path.
I got ambushed by Leon while fighting some casual enemies space ships.
So you got also to prevent enemies from gathering or speedrun fights to have a chance to get away in between.

That was my first StarFox game, and I want Nintendo to do a new one in the same style.

I remember holding on to most of my birthday money from one year waiting to buy this as soon as it came out. I was pissed when it got canceled, and I pre-ordered the SNES classic just for it.

As for the rest of the team maybe Corneria could only spare enough fuel for two fighters?

"Isn't always on rails" gives the impression that there are any on-rails sections in the entire game. The only parts that could be considered on-rails are the few-second-long sections dividing the surface half of a planet from the base half, and possibly also the final boss.

I did play quite a lot of the leaked beta version! Even with some unfinished quirks and debug leftovers. It's still a lot of fun! Probably the most replayable game in the series. Though, the final version did touch up quite a bit to more playable compared to what was leaked years prior.
