In this powerful and eye-opening video, we dive into the harrowing realities of queer conversion therapy through the lens of Shame-Sex Attraction: Survivors’ Stories of Conversion Therapy, an edited collection of survivor accounts. Featuring contributions from Gregory Elsasser-Chavez, Chaim J. Levin, Lexie Bean, Syre Klenke, and others across the LGBTQ+ spectrum, this book sheds light on the pseudoscientific, traumatic, and harmful practices of conversion therapy while amplifying the voices of those who endured it.

We sit down with the editor, Lucas—an acclaimed researcher and advocate—who shares insights from his extensive work on LGBTQ+ justice, equity, and postmemory studies. Lucas is a SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Toronto Mississauga and has written for The Advocate, Queerty, and LGBTQ Nation. His book, At Home with the Holocaust: Postmemory, Domestic Space, and Second-Generation Holocaust Literature, earned the Jordan Schnitzer First Book Publication Award, showcasing his profound ability to tackle deeply personal and societal traumas.

Join us as we uncover the truth about conversion practice, celebrate the resilience of survivors, and explore ways to ensure this injustice is never repeated for future generations.

There's just one thing I don't understand. You say that it doesn't work and that it hurts people, but how do you explain that there are so many people who say they have changed through it and have been married to the opposite sex for years?

That's why, because sexuality is fluid, it seems to me that it must work at least for some people.
