I think Joan Crawford and Bette Davis hated each other because they were so much alike. Both hungered to remain on top in Hollywood at any cost and both were covert narcissists that abused their children but in different ways. After their deaths, both of their daughters wrote scathing books about the things their mothers did to them throughout their lives. Joan and Bette never allowed their daughters to be friends but Bette's daughter (in her book) wrote that she remembers seeing Joan's daughter on a movie set...and felt sorry for her.

There is no greater Hollywood feud than that of real life sister/enemies Joan Fontaine and Olivia DeHavilland. They feuded and hated each other their entire lives, going for decades without speaking. I don’t know WHY Ryan Murphy isn’t doing a series on them. I would happily pay good money to see that feud on film.

The only thing they every "feuded" over was Franchot Tone.  Bette was in love with him,   and he didn't return the sentiment.

Instead,   he married the resplendently beautiful Joan.  Bette was common,   Joan would have taken the high road had it not been for Bette's behavior.
