The librarians at my library: “We offer free audiobooks through Hoopla! Do not pay a corporation like Audible when Hoopla is free!!!”

I lived near a library when I was younger and whenever I visited I always thought the librarian hated me for some reason. I went regularly every school year and I always thought that she was being rude to me. When I went to that library for the last time my mom told her that we would be moving a few hours away and she said “I’m so glad I got to see you grow up” and was super nice to me when I took the time to talk with her. I feel so childish for just jumping to conclusions and thinking she disliked me for something I don’t even remember. We still keep and touch and she even mails me cards for my birthday and holidays!!💖

I love this video! Libraries are really great and Booktubers rarely discuss the need to keep these libraries alive. I'm a new Book Tuber and I'm gonna try and check out my local library because of this! Thank you!

I know my library also has free museum/zoo passes and a lot of people don't know about that. Library is so much more then people think.

THIS! Working at a library I have so many people come in and say “this is so different from the libraries I grew up with!” And I’m like YES! The library’s purpose is to serve the community, we have changed with the times.

I’m so proud of how this came out! The animation is so cute, diverse, and heart warming, and each librarians’ answers are so helpful and assuring! You did a great job!

When I was a kid, I thought the library was magical. It felt almost like a place of worship to me (and I’m religious, so I’m not saying that lightly). So much possibility just waiting, patient but expectant, on the shelves. So many possible lives to slip into. The victory and defeat, the love and hate.... I’d mourn and celebrate with the characters in turn and it was like having the most reliable friends to turn to, no matter what.

When I was able to get a permit, I mostly got it and learned to drive so I could go to the library. It was my haven, my sanctuary.

I moved to a bigger town, but the main library is on the other side of town and the branch closer to me is open only on normal work hours during the week and Saturday morning from 9-12. It hurts me that so many people won’t get the opportunity to stroll through the shelves at their leisure. By 11 on a Saturday, the shelves are pretty depressing.

I’ve since gotten on several ebook lists that alert me when books are on sale for the day and I’ve had Audible for ten years, and I buy sparingly to increase a core collection (hardbacks; my vice) so I have a lot of books to choose from anyway. But it just... makes me sad that I don’t have a magic place like that now, to just commune with myself and all those adventures waiting to be picked up and embarked upon.

When I do go, I inevitably feel bad because I can afford to get some books here and there, and if I rent out that copy, that’s maybe someone’s shot at getting it. Maybe they hardly ever get to leave work an hour early, but because of a doctor’s appointment they have some time before closing. Or they’d pick it up on Saturday when they can sprint in with everyone else on their day off, but it’s not there because I’m camping out on it.

Now that I’m learning Spanish and would love some books that have an English and Spanish version, I’m going to be in there more. But I still feel a bit conflicted. I’d be swiping some middle schooler’s Spanish copy of Matilda or something. I wish our branch was less stressed, and then not only would we have more options without making an order, but we’d not feel conflicted.

I hope the next time I move, I find a town with a wonderful and gorgeous library that is well staffed and stocked. It would be a joy and a pleasure to roam the isles again like when I was a little girl. I know these magic places still exist and are even flourishing. I just have to stumble into the right wardrobe to find my way back to my literary Narnia, most likely when I least expect it to appear.

Can you add closed caption on this one? I love your channel but I really need closed caption to get what you're talking about because I'm deaf. Thanks!!

I think what these librarians are getting at is: libraries are the physical centres of knowledge of a people, and as new methods of learning this knowledge become widespread, such a centre must adapt.
Great video and love the illustrations. They look like something you'd see in an illustrated book, which gives me all sorts of warm fuzzies inside.

Yeeess! As someone who’s worked in a library my entire working life, this is something I wish more people would realise. Libraries have and are evolving, we’re no longer that “hush hush” space; We’re a social arena, for people of all walks of life. At my library we do live music during lunch, every now and then, and that’s something I often tell others who might still have that old, narrow view of libraries to kind of “burst their bubble” a bit.

We literally do everything from making food, and hosting events to helping disabled people take of their jacket, or do some heavy investigating to try and find that book you loved when you were twelve 💙.

Librarians are some of the nicest, warmest people I know. Right up there with hair stylists and vocal teachers.

I haven’t gone to my local library in three months. I miss it. It’s like my safe haven. I feel so calm when I’m there.

I love this! As a librarian I get asked all the time what it is that I do! People are so unaware of all the different things that libraries offer, not just at the public level but across all sectors.
