The Sims team tries to avoid making animations as much as possible.. We do need wheelchairs / canes / scooters etc. BUT I wouldn't count on it with their track history.

I've thought about disabilities as well, I. had no idea it was not just a me thing to want!
Wheelchair animations would probably cost a lot and take time ofc, though they would be *very good* to include. But things like canes, prosthetic legs and arms, hearing aids, and maybe with the likes and dislikes and traits you can add stuff like anxiety, autism, adhd maybe? as a person with autism and adhd there's adhd mods which is awesome, but I've literally searched the entire web for autism mods and found like 2 that both were outdated, and I've actually seen simmers in forums request modders to make autism mods!

I also feel like vitiligo would take so little effort to add so why don't they? Literally.

I know it would be pretty difficult to add new animations for wheelchairs but I would use it all the time its really odd to make yourself and not have something as important as your wheelchair and that goes for alot of stuff in the Sims it would be so cool to have I'm the game and it's honestly kinda odd they don't have stuff like wheelchairs and CANES! Canes would be so good

I remember the Sims team last year saying that they were working with a disabilities group, but they didn't get into specifics. I don't know if that will include representation in the game or making the game more accessible.

💯 0:42 I’ve been talking about this for years, why don’t we have vitiligo and heterochromia eyes. I expected from the time they introduced more skintones they would eventually introduce thing like vitiligo and heterochromia.
2:45 There are so many black hair textures and style that the sims can tap into, and I feel like they do the minimum by slightly change the same Afro/curly mesh in a different style )e.g shave a smaller Afro and bigger and different shave sides). They can add more styles like: butterfly locs, Bantu knots/(chiney bumps), pop smoke/xzibit braids, braids with bead in hair, male cornrows, tribal cornrows designs, criss cross braids, mohawk braid, goddess braids, fisbone/fishtail cornrows, cornrow and twist braided pigtails, angled cornrow beaded braid pigtails, rubber band braid etc. (Plus it’s kind of insulting to one minute put black hairs behind a pay wall the the a few months later make it free when black player probably already paid for it and saying it to include diversity when they should be making newer meshes or doing a version of that hairstyle example shorter version instead just completely ripping it from the pack)
3:30 Even-though I don’t think we will get different heights I do hope in the future we get preteens at least in the sims 5. I think their is different between young teens and older teens and older teen do look vastly different, I remember seeing people going through huge growth spurts, and getting beard voice changing in late teens. Plus with preteen you can have first crush, feeling embarrassed about still liking childish things, have a kiss on cheek interaction, being teased by older teen sibling and younger kid sibling about crush, still play with kids toys etc.
I think we should have two different types added to every walk-style, good and bad. So when a elder If you have a bad posture you have a cane, but a good posture you don’t need one.
5:00 I think disability are tricky because it kind of split between people thinking it would be offensive by making a game with how some disability could be portrayed. However I feel like they could add some disabilities like blindness, hearing aids, Asthma, prosthetics that wouldn’t be hassle. I don’t want disabilities to included as a trait and I want them to their own section in CAS.

I think the reason why Sims 4 is not giving us disabilities, burglars, and gameplay related to mental health is because it could trigger some players and other PTSD concerns.

I’d kill for an Autistic Sim. I use Sims 4 to make characters for stories and to have fun with them, but I can’t use mods on my console. I just really want disorders such as ADHD, GAD, BPD, and others in the game. It’d add so much!

I want different heights and body types and builds because i like making different race sims and i find it hard to do when i can't make south American sims or Asian sims from countries like Thailand be around 5'2'' 5'5'', Or maybe sometimes i make Nordic sims and on average people from those countries are 5'11'' and 6'5''... I want curvy bodies and also narrow hips. It's a simulation game and we don't even have freedom to simulate different human looks other than skin color, genders and hairstyles... I can't even make myself in this game not that i do, i like making random people instead but when i do in video games it never feels like me, the hair and body types are always off. I'm petite, 5'4'' and 94 lbs, most of my life i was 88 lbs, i have 4b hair and back in the day when i tried making myself and my hair when un-straightened was15 inches long and all the hairstyles in those games for black people were either too short, in a style id never wear my hair, or had afros or puffy pigtails and they always looked way too tall and thick to be me, most video games the female characters look about 5'7'' and 127 But besides me i also want really big sims, i'm tired of these games playing it safe on fat, like the max you'll ever see them is 215 lbs, i think they could go to 500 I'm just bored of everyone looking like generic store mannequins.... Their body type, the clothes they wear, the hairstyles it's all generic.

Yes, yes & yes!! More accurate representation please!! TS4 feels like a weird dystopia without physical, mental, learning, and other disabilities & disorders!!!

Yes, yes, yes! All of this! I remember being genuinely shocked that height sliders weren't a thing in the Sims 4. But we know EA would never go the extra mile to add all the animations for most of these. I'd say they should dedicate a small team to work on adding these into the game, but maybe it's easier to leave that for Sims 5 or something. Things like hearing aids and Vitiligo should totally be added no problem though! It helps raise awareness.

The disability thing really pisses me off with the addition of bicycles. Like bruh its not that hard to even just include a wheelchair.

Am i the only one who thinks the default skin tones are still terrible? If you randomise them they end up weirdly gray and half of them do not look like anything I’ve ever seen on a human. EA does not care about actual diversity as long as it appears like a long list of swatches. They don’t even have options for many hijabs and there’s whole packs where not a single piece of clothing is suitable for a hijabi without extra cc. That’s one thing I was excited for when they came out with the Korean and Indian fashion kits, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to add that too and they haven’t.
Edit: stuff like chronic illness would require no extra animations, literally just a moodlet or two and things like faster decreasing sleep bars. The reason they aren’t doing it is because if they did they’d have to do others and it not something you can sell as a pack so they don’t do it

Oh my God, I've been wanting disabilities in the Sims literally ever I started playing in 2008 I think. I have a type of muscular dystrophy, basically my muscles get weaker over time, and I've been in a wheelchair my entire life. I have a feeding tube, use a breathing machine. I've never known what it's like to not have a disability, it's literally a part of who I am. I always thought it would be so amazing to be able to at least in some way represent that part of me. Watching this video and hearing that there are others that feel that way and have created mods to allow Simmers to show that part of their selves honestly almost made me cry. I really hope that some day we can have disabilities in the game itself. I love mods, don't get me wrong, I use like at least 100 of them and keep adding to my list. My only problem is that you are almost constantly having to update them. If disabilities were available in-game, it'd be so much easier to manage. But now that I know there are disability mods out there, I'm definitely using them. Thank you thesimyin for spreading awareness about the lack of diversity in The Sims, especially with disabilities. <3

I haven’t thought about a lot of these issues not including the disability representation, so thank you for speaking up about this and bringing light to them. I will do my best to keep these communities in mind when playing and in every day to day life

What you say near the end, about the privileged one saying it's ok we don't have everything, remind me the discussion about sexualities for Paralives. It's not the same as disabilities, but people were giving their opinions and saying "we don't need this or that" about sexualities who weren't . I'm asexual and sex-repulsed, and some people were against it being in the game because they wanted to have s*x and babies with every para, when I just want to be able to play a character like me who can't and don't want any sexual interactions. With those kinds of topic, the dev often ask the opinion of the majority when they should listen to the people concerned irl.
Also, I have depression and severe anxiety, which impact my life a lot, and I do sometimes wish to play with a character experiencing those, but sometimes I just want to forget about it and I would understand people suffering those not wanting to see it in a game (my sister finished in the hospital because of her depression, so I don't really want to revive that). Depression is also a mental illness that kills people, so maybe it shouldn't be in the game like other mortal illnesses who aren't (all the cancers, for example)

With werewolves adding body scars, we can totally have vetiglo. Mental disabilities and hearing aids would be easy as well. Prosthetics could also work like vetiglo since there won't need to be new animations. Although, those sim amputees would not like having to wear it all the time.
Okay, Mental disabilities might be a bit harder, but I'm autistic, I have anxiety and learning disabilities, I would love to see some Representation.

I understand what you mean about waiting for big holidays for us to get what we want.

Although I appreciate the idea of including disabilities, I always want to be very careful to discuss this matter because I really want the game to get it right and not make a parody out of it. This is something I have very little faith in the Sims 4 team.

It is pretty much known that Sims players may fall in either these 2 school of thoughts: "Realism" people who want the game as realistic as possible and "Escapism" people who want the game to be an escape to their real life problems. I think early Sims games hit the right balance between the two, but I don't think Sims 4 is capable of doing that.
