PNP Candidates to get an Open Work Permit Under New Policy | 2024 Update

If you’re a PNP candidate with a valid or recently expired work permit, you may be eligible for an open work permit. A new temporary public policy allows eligible Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates to access open work permits.

Eligible candidates must hold a valid work permit or have had one that expired as of May 7, 2024.

A support letter from the province or territory is required to qualify for the open work permit.

Until now the OINP provides work permit support letters only if an application is approved for the following streams:

•Employer Job Offer: International Student
•Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker
•Employer Job Offer: In-Demand Skills

🛑 This public policy will expire on December 31, 2024 and may be revoked at any time, without prior notice.

Hi Kubeir,
I was nominated by Ontario PNP under Master's Graduate stream and have applied for my PR through non-EE on July 22nd. I haven't received the AOR yet and my Work Permit ends on Septemebr 22nd. Unfortunately, OINP is still internally discussing if they should issue support letters for my stream. I'm wondering if I can apply for an extension using my Nomination Certifcate or apply for a BOWP without an AOR and submit it as a web form once I receive it.
