Wax isn't just for candles. Also known as hot wax painting, the encaustic medium uses heated, pigmented beeswax to create one-of-a-kind wall art. You're sure to love the results of using this timeless medium with a stencil and luxurious gold embellishing wax.

Thanks for watching how to do Encaustic do you think you will give it a go?

Fusing is the term for ensuring each layer sticks to the next. The wax doesn’t stick to the substrate without encaustic gesso unless you are working on wood. These are so beautiful. I really hope they last and don’t flake away over time ❤

It looked like you were using regular stretched canvas for acrylic and oil painting. For whoever is watching, you really should use Clayboard or wood panels for encaustic. Stretched canvas allows movement of the substrate, and can cause the wax to crack or peel off. Just some friendly advice. Otherwise, great video! Thanks!😀❤️

Kari-you are amazing! We were partners in France learning plaster and painting frescoes together-you were the one that always had the prettiest end painting! It’s so nice to see you sharing your god given talent with the world-folks you will never find a better mentor than Kari!

Good tip on how to melt the wax on the burner and using clothespins to lift it off the burner !

Kari, do you use any kind of hardening agent like damar in your wax? I thought your project was a good introductory idea. Thank you ... with blessings.

Is that canvas? Encaustic needs rigid and absorbent like wood panel

Have you ever tried encaustic gesso? Thinking that might help avoid the wax pulling away from canvas. Enjoyed your lesson. Has inspired me to pull out my encaustic supplies and play.

Kari, thank you for sharing, I wouldn’t have thought of canvas, I also saw someone using tiles. I think the smaller canvases would work rather than the large. Large might sag, unless spiratically done.

Can you share some info on that stencil? What's it called? It almost looks like a silkscreen in the way you are squeegeeing the wax through it.

How is the wax still wet in the can lid when it’s not on a heated surface? My wax dries when it’s not on a heat source?

You do not mention the base coat you put on your panel. Why not ?

Question about sealing or varnishing this medium- is this necessary to protect the artwork? If so, what should be used? Also, can you use acrylic paint with this for a mixed media process?
