Gotta read Sinatra's biography, he had the mob try and get her stuff to get well but with guards at her door/in her room, all attempts failed, and he felt bad about not being able to help someone he respected and cared about so much. This was in '59 when they basically let her parish in a hospital room, even the priest held up a sign, showing he was against the decision to not give her methadone, so she wouldn't be in agony.

Good morning. Billie Holiday was clearly in need of help. If you are on drugs and performing to the point that you may faint, it is transparent people are going to worry about you. Billie was not being harassed for no reason. The World loved her and did not want people giving her drugs because of her beauty and talent so that she could live. The government placed her in jail instead of a drug program. This was one of the best jazz performers in history. Billie did not belong in jail. She needed drug treatment. The men in her life did not stand up for her the way she needed them. She missed her father. The government guy treated her as a criminal for an addiction. There was not any violence or deaths committed by Billie Holiday to treat her like a criminal. The guys are always on something in the worksites and everywhere else. The government make sure the men and certain women are housed all around us and paid on heavy drugs. Disgusting. Thanks for sharing.
