At Cancer Research UK, the world’s largest independent cancer charity, we fund more than £350m of direct research each year - and we have bold plans to increase this to £500m annually over the next 5 years. We’re increasingly looking to fields outside of biomedical sciences to bring novel ideas, new technologies, and different approaches to help us accelerate progress. In order to help realise our ambition to see three-quarters of patients surviving cancer within the next 20 years, we have launched the Pioneer Award which aims to fund high-risk, high-reward ideas, in any discipline, that could improve cancer prevention, diagnosis or treatment. We are particularly keen to promote this scheme within fields not normally associated with cancer research (e.g. computer science, electronics and communication).
