Broken Fox Mustang ignition switches are a common problem. They cause some very troublesome issues as they start to ware out - won't start condition, air condition A/C issues or the worst case scenario FIRE. The problems are cased by the crimps that hold the ignition switch together. After years of being in service they get worn out or worse break off.

Follow along in the video as Jmac shows you just how easy it is to remove and replace this all to common problem. Installation can be done in your driveway in less than an hour.

Its also important to know that older Foxes use those 'break away' bolts. Not the security torx bolts shown here. A pair of vice grips or pliers will work to turn them and remove them. This ignition if not changed could pose a fire hazard as well. It is a VERY important item to replace ASAP. Thanks for the great how to video LMR!

I had to replace mine 3 weeks ago in my 89 convertible. My turn signals would stop working intermittently, along with the a/c blower and wipers. A google search pointed me toward the ignition switch. Replacing it was easy enough once you remove the steering column trim.

You guys are awesome! You’ve helped me keep my 88 fox vert on the road, from everything from convertible top repair to window motors to simple switches like this 🤘🏻🤘🏻

On my '92 Coupe, after it didn't start one day, I zip tied the switch together. I definably need to replace it ..lol

Damn! I passed up a '86 Convertible for $600. The guy had trouble starting it and it would die on him. He checked the fuel pump, regulator and fuel shut off. I bet THIS was the problem.

I have an 88 Ford Mustang and the turn signals do not light up on the outside or inside but the hazards work fine, I've tried everything. fuses and light bulbs are fine, could the ignition switch cause that? Please help

I had to change this not long after I got my car. I ended up getting a new one from the parts store I worked for at the time. A couple zip-ties holding the two parts together (had to go around the column to do that) make for good, cheap insurance.

86 GT doesn't have torx head screws - they look like rivets. Any ideas?

It causes havoc on the electrical system. It could be causing something to stay on. Have you installed anything like a new radio lately??

I bought a new switch from LMR and after a year it failed like the original. It jiggles connecting to the metal housing. I lost turn signals though the hazards worked.

Yo this was my problem my mustang acted up after a oil change and it turned out to be this switch, I realized it after every turn I did it wanted to turn off.

my car kept cutting off while driving and then come back on while going down the road, then sometimes it would take a minute to start, well  it wouldn't start I replaced the coil and coincidently it started, well now it wont start and my turn signals quit working at the same time, would a bad ignition cause that too ? any help would be greatly appretiated, thanks

Does this still apply for a 1990 LTD crown victoria? Same steering wheel as the fox body, and my key is stuck in the ignition, it seems the car thinks I've left it in gear regardless of where the shifter is.

My problem is the opposite of this though, my car runs just fine, so now if anyone breaks in it they can just drive right off in it!

so i get no power no lights no noise no nothing when i turn the key. People are telling me it might be the starter but i think it might be the ignition switch. Would it cause there to be no reaction from my car at all when i turn the key?
