It's funny that we now relate this idea of the tower as a ziggurat or a mountain place of worship when that's not the full case. LOTR did a job well done in reversing/editing that idea, while the orcs had an all seeing eye tower the alliance had a tower as a fortress/citadel and who made the tower of Babel? Nimrod who was a warrior especially a bowman... So if you get my point, it's a tower that's unreachable and undefeatable like a very fine defensive structure as well as a prison in itself.

I believe God didn't completely erase that original language, remember he just confounded thier language, i believe it could be the Tamil language, since it is considered the oldest language in the world, it may have once been a global language.
