My alt is an ap varus main (I only play ap varus in ranked, seeing how high I can go). Typically I don't build deathcap because to be useful other than blowing up a single target, you need some utility - sometimes this involves building runaans or wits end depending on the matchup/enemy team comp. I almost always build gunblade as first item, the heals off of his w proc can be absolutely insane plus the extra ad helps csing early game.
