Amazing what you can do without fancy stuff! One thing that I find seems to work is when you're diddling around with the root, swap to the flat 7 (of the chord you're on) just before the chord's about to change.

Jeff, thanks for illustrating this so clearly. Sometimes, I think the minor pentatonic gets a bad wrap on guitar teaching videos due to its simplicity. I feel like we would be better served by getting this under our fingertips while working on our dynamics before moving on to more advanced stuff. Plus, it still sounds pretty good if done well as you have just shown.
