SOS is the song that introduced Dimash to the world and opened many great opportunities and collaborations for him. There are a number of versions of Dimash singing this song, each different but all great. The song SOS comes from the famous 1978 Canadian-French rock opera 'Starmania', which is well known in French-speaking countries, and is a pretty difficult song to sing. In 2017 Dimash received a wild card for the competition “The Singer” in China. He was the youngest participant ever at 22 years old and the first non-Chinese. Only professional, award-winning singers take part in this competition. Although well-known and respected in his homeland Kazakhstan, few in China knew or heard about Dimash before, but with his first song, SOS, Dimash shocked the audience and captured the hearts of over 600 million of viewers overnight, and the rest is history as the saying goes.

Welcome to Dimash, he's a global sensation with fan clubs in 140 countries across the world from here in the UK to New Zealand.
That was actually quite a small amount of flowers for him to receive and quite a small audience, his last concert had almost 35, 000 people from 68 countries.
He'll be 29 on May 24, he's 6'3 and has been musically educated since the age of 5, he holds a bachelor's degree in vocals, a master's degree in composition and will be completing his PhD in musicology this year.
He's currently living and working in Los Angeles but has just landed in Armenia for the second concert of the Stranger world tour.
I'd strongly recommend listening to Stranger, Ikanaide, Samaltau and Durdaraz (especially the latest version from his Almaty concert) which will give you an idea of the level of his solo concerts.

Dimash has been attending music school since he was 5 and won his first piano competition at 6, obviously they also noticed his vocal talents too. He is thanking everyone, thanking the Slavic bazaar as he won it in 2015, saying how music/singing is his career. The amount of flowers this man gets is ridiculous. He gets enough flowers to donate them to local hospitals, nursing homes, etc. where ever he goes in the world.

Welcome to the world of Dimash! Thank you for your genuine reaction and appreciation of Dimash’s insane talent. He’s not only an exceptional vocalist, but also an accomplished musician, and an amazing performer.

Dimash has a vocal range of over 7 octaves, which is quite impressive; but that’s not what defines him. He sounds exquisite at any range, which is incredible in and of itself.
Besides, his voice has so many colors and tone to it, not mentioning his vocal dynamics. His voice is soaring only to express his intense emotions, whether it’s a cry for help (SOS), a yearning (Samaltau), or to express pain or loss (The Story of One Sky). Dimash, being a composer himself (“Unforgettable Day”- Ұмытылмас күн, The Story of One Sky, El Amor en Ti…), knows how the song he interprets must be delivered. Indeed, what I love about Dimash is that he does not use his vocal abilities to show off, but to serve the song: through his voice, he’s telling us a story.
In short, he’s not only a masterful vocalist — It’s precisely thanks to his mastery that Dimash is able to freely dive, and tap, into his emotions; but he’s also a great storyteller. What I love about him as well is the way he immerses himself in the songs he sings.

At last, know that Dimash is classically trained — he even declined a position as an opera singer when he was only 22, and has absolute pitch (a rare cognitive trait by the way) which was discovered when he was only 5 years old.

You should hear him today! He’s absolutely incredible, you have heard nothing yet, every performance will shock you! Dimash won the Slavic Bazaar competition in 2015. He’s thanking the competition for giving him his big break and he’s invited back as a guest here in 2018. In 2021 he was one of the judges. he sang a few songs in 2021 as a guest and he received about 100 bouquet’s after his first performance! He’s now a worldwide superstar but he won’t sign a contract with the West (thank goodness), as he wants to be in control of what he sings which is actually all genres from Opera to Rock to Folk to Rap and everything in between! He’s singing a cover here, but he’s also an excellent composer and multi-instrumentalist. He’s 29 on May 24th 2023, and he started singing at music school at the age of 5. He trains with a vocal coach between 3-4 hours every day. His parents are both famous singers in his country. His mom sings Opera and his dad sings pop and is a famous music producer in Europe/Asia. Dimash is a 28-years old singer from Kazakhstan and believe me, you’ve seen nothing at all. In my opinion you have discovered the best singer in the world. He has perfect pitch and currently has a vocal range of 7, 7 octaves (vocal fry C1 (B0) – whistle D8 off the piano). That means he hits notes in almost 8 octaves and sings consistently in 6 octaves. Not in one song (mostly😅). At least what he has shown us so far. He plays several instruments like piano, dombra (a kazach instrument), drums, marimba and more. He has classical as well as contemporary vocal training and sings in different genres from opera to pop, jazz, Kazakh folk, ballads and he even raps a bit. And often he skillfully mixes several genres in one song. And meanwhile in more than 10 languages. The latest songs (from Tokyo Jazz Festival in November 2021) are Ikanaide in Japanese and at his concert in Almaty on September 23, 2022 he sang a new song in Spanish (about 7 languages in one concert!).
He sings no mainstream and is a completely independent artist. He is managed by his father Kanat, who founded his own company "DimashAli Creative Center". The logo can be seen at the beginning of many of Dimash's videos. Maybe that’s the reason you never heard of him yet. He doesn’t sell his soul to a music label. He doesn’t want to be dictated by money when he has to sing what, when, where and how.
Many of my favorite songs are in his native tongue. He is a nice, respectful and humble person. He respects people regardless of their original, religion or profession. He truly loves his homeland Kazakhstan and his people with all his heart and always shows it with pride in many of his songs, concerts and interviews. During his concerts in Dubai, Düsseldorf and Prague in 2022, before he performed his song War And Peace, he told the audience he loves all people in every country. And there are no bad nations (only bad leaders). And I absolutely believe this.
His concert in September 23, 2022 was in his hometown Almaty, it was so amazing and it lasts almost 4 hours. Believe it or not but he really gets better and better. Every time you think you know him and his art, you realize your so wrong.
He's very spiritual and thankful for the gift God has given him. But he also works very hard to improve his vocal skills.
He said in an interview that he trains at least 3 hours every day, if necessary, it can be 10 hours to prepare for a concert. He loves swimming and also a lot under water. Maybe that's why he has this large lung capacity to hold the notes as long as he does. He's a singer you can't put in any box. He sings almost every genre there is. Every time you watch a video, expect the unexpected. Even the covers he sings he makes his own and brings elements into the song that you would never expect. Don't be surprised if you get suggestions for songs you may have already seen. Dimash has different versions of many of the same songs. They are all worth seeing. Not only is he perfect at singing and performing, he's also an incredibly good actor. Check out his music videos. They are amazing. You think I’m exaggerating? No, I don’t think so😄.
He sang this song as a guest at the Slavic Bazaar in Belarus 2018. It’s an International Festival of Arts and a contest for young singers, which he won in 2015.
SOS is a song in the rock-opera „Starmania“ from 1978. The first who presented this song was the French singer and songwriter Daniel Balavione.
SOS was the first performance of the China competition (in 2017) and was his first appearance in this show. The Singer is a show in China where only established singers are invited to perform. All the singers invited to this show are already well-known artists in China who have already won awards. Dimash was invited as the first foreigner as a wild card and the youngest in the history of this show. They became aware of him because he had already won some important competitions in Kazakhstan and Belarus, among others. He was still completely unknown in China. Actually, it was intended that he would only have 1 or 2 appearances. But it came completely different. When he woke up the next morning after his first performance of SOS he was a megastar in China and even found bodyguards outside his hotel room. SOS’ first video had 600 million views when it aired. He was just 22 years old at the time.

The man who often plays the kobys in Dimash’s performances is the best on this instrument and a good friend of Dimash. His name is Olzhas Qurmanbek. Stranger is one of my absolute favorite songs. I get goosebumps every time I hear it.

In 2017 he entered a Chinese competition called I Am A Singer. He knew that as a non Chinese he couldn't win, but he wanted the name recognition. He got that and second place.

He was 22. SOS was his first song in the competition. He won that first stage with this song and also the second stage with his equally brilliant, but more fun, Opera 2. His performances and the reactions of the audience and his fellow competitors make both these videos outstanding. All of the songs he performed there are great, including Hello and The Show Must Go On. They were sung in English but his accent wasn't great then; it has improved since 2017.
