She got dealt all the worst cards and still came out on top. Hell yeah, that’s how you do it. Good job

Any mother who would do that, does not love their child. I'm glad she reported it.

My mom did this to me, and later on I found out she did this again to my younger brother. We are not in speaking terms, much to her surprise.

When i was a car salesman, I had a guy come in with a trade. He had a 310 credit score and had never made a payment on his car for over a year. Funniest conversation to think we could help.

My mom did this to me. Ran up a Lowe’s credit card to 17K and then pulled 25K of student loans out and then left. Currently have a 435 credit score.

Every time I see shorts of her I remember she's one of the only guests I really liked. She got dealt a raw hand and she made it work. She always seemed like a really genuine and accountable person.

My mom did that. She also opened everything from electricity to water in mine and my brother's name. We were in debt before we were adults.

Wow, I feel so bad for her that she had to go through this at all. This story is far more common than you think. Glad she's out of the hole now but there's tons of victims who are not.

I'm so sorry she had to get through all of that, but she worked all the way up to 710 credit score! Great job!

I’d love to see more people who are honestly and truly victims of circumstance like this rather than people who you can IMMEDIATELY tell that it’s a behavior problem.
I’d rather see “it’s a lot but you’ve got the motivation, you just need direction. Here’s a game plan and you’ll be out of debt in x amount of time” rather than “you’re making the choice to spend twice as much as your income on purpose and refuse to change. If you spent within your means you’d be out of debt in x amount of time but you won’t. No budget can fix that, see a therapist”

Man that absolutely SUCKS. What a terrible mother to ruin her child’s life for selfish gain. Glad she got past that and hope she restarts her life and has great financial success

This happened to my friend. These types of parents should face some type of consequences. It’s pathetic

I went from a 480 because my roommate refused to pay his share of the rent, and using my car all the time without asking, but because of the abusive home I grew up in I just took it. Well a year or so later I got out, and bit by bit I work myself back up to a 750ish now I’m trying to start a business that matches my skills, education and experience.

My family opened utilities in my name. Never knew about it so once i moved out at 19 i couldnt get electric or water on until the bills they ran up in my name were paid. Sad how parents and family can be the enemy

My mom also opened credit cards under my name after I turned 18. Luckily, I found them in the mail and cut them up. Led to me moving out early, but I can’t imagine what life would be like if I had to live with a credit score like that.

That's almost as low as it can technically get.
According to FICO and VantageScore models, the lowest it can go is 300.
I had honestly never heard of people doing this until a few years ago.
It absolutely BLOWS MY MIND that people would knowingly and willingly do this to their own children.
People like that would have the audacity to be upset that you reported the identity theft and say "you don't do that ti family."
So glad to see she was able to to get it all worked out.

My buddy from high school had the opposite happen, his parents built his credit, so when he was 18 he had the equivalent to the established credit of a 40 year old man. He almist ruined it but was able to recover after a couple years. They gave him high credit limits which he promptly ran up above his ability to pay off, took a couple years but he fixed it.

My stepmom did this to me I was going to put her in jail for stealing my credit card . She was going shopping at nice stores like Louis Vuitton, opening stuff in my name, but my father wouldn’t let me call the cops. Now that my dad is dead my stepmom and I don’t talk. Then all the crap she purchased I took it all.

It’s so sad how often you hear about situations like this. It’s bad enough that some parents don’t give their children any financial advice when they’re growing up, but actively destroying your child’s credit without them even knowing is disgusting. I’m glad she was able to report the identity theft and work to get it fixed.

My roommate's mom did the same thing. Her mom is bipolar. She had to either press charges or eat the debt(over $10k). Its not resolved yet, but both her parents have basically disowned her. Her dad sounds like an enabling idiot to me. They also had her aunt lure her to visit and ambushed her trying to convince her to drop the charges. Which is witness tampering. I don't know all the details and try not to pry, but its a terrible ordeal. Sad thing is her mom has such a long history of mental illness that she could probably come clean and still avoid punishment as she's CLEARLY unfit to stand trial or be held responsible for her actions, but she's not rational and there is no one around her to hold her accountable. Her husband is just a naive enabling coddling idiot who could probably protect his daughter while also helping his wife, but instead he just live to appease her insane whims. Even though he knows very well that she's bipolar. The mom also stole all my roommate's savings prior which the father knows about and acknowledge.
