Hifi real talk ! as Audiophiles, we always look to maximize our loudspeaker's performance. One way is to buy acoustic treatment or tweek speaker placement. BUT What if we don't have acoustic treatment? Well if you are in a small space, or a very bad sounding room, or just in general.... here is one simple way to evaluate and maximize your audiophile home system !

One of the best rooms for sound I had was one with real wood cedar board walls, acoustic tile ceiling and carpeting.

Excellent work, yet again, Jay. I am a big fan of near field listening. You're wonderful subscribers should also be aware that near field listening requires a speaker with closely spaced drivers and preferably two ways to minimize interference between the drivers. Thanks again!

reason open baffle speakers should be common and box speakers only for the brave of heart!

The only treatment i have done in my room is adding a carpet in front of the speakers made a world of difference.

Question: How do you define "near field"? Is it 4'? 6'? As far away as 8'?

Basicly the same story/tip Steve Guttenberg delivered a couple of weeks ago.
But it works well, so that's good.

Thumbnail = Tekton with a patented array of tweeters functioning as a mid. Actual vid = Jay with a patented array of pugs functioning as ironic dystopian simulacrum (think DeLillo's 'White Noise').

Listening in near field. In your pajamas. Got it 👍

In your opinion, what is the maximum distance from the listening position to the speakers that is still can be considered as near field?

Steve Guttenberg "The Audiophiliac" suggests this also.

Small speakers are much much easier to work with in a small room. They interact much less with the room and on good stands will image extremely well.

Can we assume that you are working on a review of the Tekton Perfect set? If and when you do, please be sure to compare to the Tekton Lore for people who may want to upgrade their Lore's to the tweeter array. Thanks Jay, I enjoy your videos..

What is your definition of near-field? I have my system in a smaller room with speakers about 9 feet apart and 15 inches from back wall and my listening position is also about 9 feet from speakers. Would this setup be considered near-field? This configuration works well for me since the smaller room I'm using doesn't share any walls with neighbors like my larger living room.

Great thanks I think bigger speakers make better sounds in a small 👍

QOTD - Speakers at the short wall, but with windows behind, or at the long wall, with windows at 1 side?
