I would love to have an SL. However, they are a bit out of my price range. When I drive my 300D with the windows down and the sunroof open, I imagine that it is a diesel SL. :)

I would certainly like to see part 2 of this comparison video. I’m purchasing a relatives 1986-560SL soon, and your videos have been very informative!!

Not a difficult decision it all comes down to which one you can afford.

I love the late '80s 560SL. It's in the list for my top 5 MBs of all-time. So is the W123 300D which is the only one in my top 5 that doesn't go fast. And I got a kick out of hearing, again, the fact that the 560SL has enough muscle that one can drive it at extended fast for long periods of time. I now have a silver 2004 Jaguar XJ8 which I also love and figure on possibly some extended road trips in it. And I'm subscribing to this channel as well.

I like all pierre has to say, very smart and knows mercedes. I wish I knew half of what he does. I have a low milage 560 sl and love it. I wish I could afford many other models. Either is fine. Both well made. Lew

Pierre, I just discovered your channel and it is awesome!! I recently bought an R107 300SL with a 5 speed manual, and for what I've gathered from this series of 107 v 113 videos, I could say it combines the durability and usability of the 107 with the fun character of the 113. I find it very lively and quick to drive, completely different from a 560SL which I felt a lot more boat like. What do you think?
Cheers from Uruguay.

Glad that as of late the 107’s are finally starting to get some love ❤️ on this channel👍🏾. The 107’s are both wonderful as well as practical cars in almost every way and (I guess depending on where you live) it’s a shame that they are rarely seen on the road anymore 😢. For a roadster/GT based car they are quite comfortable for long trips if you are not taller than (say) 180-182cm or heavier than around 90kg. Above these measurements a 107 can still be enjoyable for short jaunts and everyday use but long distance travel will become challenging IMO.

At the end of the day the Achilles Heel of the 107 has got to be the AC system. There was an old joke and people used to laugh about how Mercedes designed an AC system then built the car around it. Turns out there’s nothing funny about that joke but rather quite depressing if you ask me. Between the 107 & 126 the entire dash has to come out in order to access the climate control box and afaik the book calls for somewhere around 20hrs, and I remember hearing quotes for upwards of 7K for this job (YIKES). IMHO, pulling the dash on one of these cars is not for the faint hearted. Having said that a properly functioning AC system can totally make or break the comfortability and joy of the 107 or 126 ownership.

I love my 450SL but wish it had the modern amenities of a 560SL. Still, I’m into it for $11k total so who am I to complain.

I would love to have heated seats!!! There is a random plugs hanging down from the seats in my SEL! No switches though. 🤔 I’ve been wondering what they go to!

Very interesting and informative video ; Is there something you can do to make the 113 a better long range cruiser ?

How about the 350SL from the 70's?

In my opinion many 2-seaters don't age well. There is certain pretentiousness about 2-seater cars that neither of those two examples escape.
