Yes. I worked on and drove these cars way back in the '80s. They are reliable, powerful, comfortable, good handling and relatively nimble...tanks.

I was blessed to grow up in these as a child. Loved everything about them, the sound of the engine, the sound of closing the vault-like doors and the smell of of the leather. Definitely my best car of the world

I had a 1975 280S w116 and a 1979 450SEL. Loved them both. Such quality. Heavy and solid. Currently have the next generation w126 1990 420SEL which I adore and have treasured for 16 years....Mercedes of this era are just exceptional, built to a standard - not to a price.

Once again you have given us a superb video. From Ducati to Alfa Romeo and now Mercedes.
In 1976 my grandfather bought a 450SEL, a wonderful powerful and comfortable car but it never was as loveable and as entertaining as his previous Alfa 1750GTV.
However like this 70's Merc I think the 60's Alfas were the absolute pinnacle of affordable
automotive design for that particular time. I don't suppose you will be making videos for electric cars any time soon!
I am just wondering what you will come up with next week, probably how to weld rust on that old V6 Alfa.
Good work, keep it up. Thanks.

They are well engineered and it's easy to do mechanical work, repairs and maintenance 🙂

all haptic buttons and no one spying on you. Great presence on the road and fun to cruise. Having childhood fund memories being a passenger...

Car is awesomesauce, my dad used to own a W123 200D in the 80s/90s. Was also indestructible. Keep up the good work with the videos!

Wonderful car! My dad got a new 350SE delivered in 1979, it went to 218km/h. Too bad it was an automatic, a manual was even faster than a 450.

And an AMG 450 had 277hp back in the day, that car left any 6.9 for dead.

I have owned exactly the same car (1979) with the 3.5 litre engine from 1990 to 1994, same extern ans inner colour schemes. It was the best car I have had. I was 28 when I bought it, which was somewhat politically incorrect, but despite the fuel consumption (13-21 l/100) it did not cost me so much in maintenance. The perfomances were great, especially when I replaced the 3 speed automatic transmission (of which reconditioning was at the price of a new car) by a 2nd hand 4 speed manual collected from a 350 SLC, for around 300 euros, installation by my faithful independent Mercedes specialist included (those were times). This transformed it into a beast. In 3rd (the red zone being in around 6500 rpm/m) I feared no one. These were really incredibly performing pullmans, with an interior that had no equal - the W126 I had afterwards were no match - with real, thick wood on the dashboard and incredible quality overall. Rust was a problem indeed, especially in the boot where water infiltrations were hard to solve. What a car - I still regret it.

Interesting video and yes it is a great car but I prefer with diesel because all of the petrols are not for daily drivers, rather just showroom cars . I had owned some of these v8 and 6 cylinder as well but especially in the town around the 20l is not acceptable for me! Now I have a s124 E 220, just for fun and love, and for me this type is the top peak form Mercedes (with 250/300 turbo engine as well) I mean it’s classic and modern in the same time, my opinion that could be a real classic daily driver in all aspects, it has a much better suspension, with relative light body weight, but with optimal size inside and outside, and with unbelievable CW 0, 29-30, mostly it has equipped with the today standard ABS, SRS, ASR, and even ASD sometimes, many of them also have a bunch of comfort extras like for example the electric and heated seats. ( but still springs inside)And besides that it’s very reliable and simple technology, easy work on it, with acceptable parts supplied and cost .
Cheers from Hungary 🇭🇺
