Welcome to my new series where we put ChatGPT to the test against PGA teaching pros! I’m Edward Retief, a PGA Fellow with over 15 years in the golf industry. Can AI really help improve my golf game? Let’s find out!

In This Video:
We dive into my golf swing from both side and down-the-line views, analyzing key aspects and providing targeted drills to improve my technique. Here are the drills we’ll be focusing on:

1. Low and Slow Drill:
• Purpose: To smooth out the backswing and maintain a consistent tempo.
• How to Do It: Start your backswing slowly, focusing on a controlled and steady movement. This helps prevent rushing the swing and ensures proper positioning.
2. Weight Transfer Drill:
• Purpose: To ensure proper weight shift during the downswing for maximum power.
• How to Do It: At address, distribute your weight evenly. During the backswing, shift your weight to your back foot. Initiate the downswing by shifting your weight to your front foot, ensuring a smooth transition.
3. Belt Buckle Facing the Target Drill:
• Purpose: To ensure full body rotation and balance during the follow-through.
• How to Do It: After impact, rotate your hips fully so that your belt buckle faces the target. This promotes a complete and balanced follow-through, enhancing power and accuracy.
4. Swing Plane Drill:
• Purpose: To keep the club on the correct swing path throughout the swing.
• How to Do It: Use alignment sticks or a club placed on the ground along your target line. Practice swinging back and forth, ensuring your clubhead follows the path of the alignment sticks.
5. Left Arm Straight Drill:
• Purpose: To maintain a straight left arm during the backswing for more power and control.
• How to Do It: Focus on keeping your left arm straight from the takeaway to the top of the backswing. Avoid bending the elbow to maintain a wide and powerful swing arc.
6. Hinge Retention Drill:
• Purpose: To maintain wrist hinge until impact for better lag and power.
• How to Do It: In the downswing, keep your wrists hinged until just before impact. Practice slow-motion swings to get the feel of holding the hinge and releasing it at the right moment.
7. Elbows Facing the Target Drill:
• Purpose: To achieve a balanced finish with proper alignment.
• How to Do It: After striking the ball, ensure both elbows point towards the target. This helps maintain a straight and consistent follow-through, promoting accuracy.
