This has always freaked me out. Even after we die, the Earth will always be here even in hundreds of millions of years. There might not be any life on it, but it'll still be a floating rock. To think that one day it will be completely destroyed into nothing is crazy to me.

Mercury is NOT tidally locked. Orbital period 88 days, rotation period 58 days. For a planet to be tidally locked the orbital period and the rotation period have to be exactly the same.

It would not be that big of an event if Jupiter were swallowed by the Sun. However, before we get to Jupiter, all the inner rocky planets, Earth being one of them, would have already fallen into the Sun. Once Jupiter fell into the Sun, not much would happen. Nearly 1, 000 Jupiter sized planets can fit in the Sun. The Sun is huge man! It would absorb Jupiter and wonder if Saturn is on it's way.
