This is just a small tribute to Paris with Carmen Dragon's arrangement of the French National Anthem. On this 1957 recording he conducts the Capitol Symphony Orchestra. It comes from a selection of French pieces that have been issued in first-rate CD transfers by 'Pristine Audio' (PASC 185).

The lyrics to this song are profoundly revolutionary and also bloody-minded- water their crops with the blood of their enemies? Gotta love it!

I have loved Carmen Dragon since he was a presence in Los Angeles decades ago. Viva Le France, warts n all, (WE ALL HAVE CULTURAL WARTS) Vic Hugo, Dickens "Tale of 2 Cities", Jules Verne who commemorated Darwin via "Journey to the Center of the Earth", and "Mysterious Island", as well as Bizet, Poulenc, Saint Saens, Adolphe Adam, Hector Berlioz and the influence he had on Russian Art music, Auric, Roussel, Debussy and Ravel. *BIG ETC* You French have SO much to be proud of!!! Some of it MUCH MORE interesting than the same ol' Minutiiae of the Age of Enlightenment.

Un peu trop "arrangé", peut-être. Cela ressemble à une musique de film ou à certaines musiques d'Elgar. C'est agréable à écouter, mais on est loin du souffle de Berlioz !

Where's the statue of Jean d'Arc? Possibly that's just a little too nationalistic for the present-day French?

I feel like certain sections of this piece are reminiscent of Dvorak's New World Symphony.

Oh, I recognize this tune from a Beatles song. Didn't know they lifted it from this anthem.
