With Dendrobiums, Expect the Unexpected - Den lindleyi Has a Spike

Filmed last week, this was an unexpected discovery for two reasons - I wasn't expecting it to bloom, and I was looking in the wrong place.

Hi, ur Lindley plant looks very healthy. How do you take care of them? I especially want to know how you water them? Do you spray them multiple times a day?

I just missed out on a Den lindleyi in an online auction - just a seedling but the only one I’ve seen in NZ. It just got too expensive for me :( But one day I hope I will get one - I think they’re glorious! jenkinsii was also in the auction and fetched even more for a 1 year old seedling!

Oh well, I will have to live vicariously through your videos - can’t wait to see the blooms! Thanks for sharing the good news :)

A Penny for your thoughts Roger, When is a seedling - not a seedling, and when is it a mature Orchid compare to a seedling. When is an Orchid considered "A Specimen"- size and or age. Thanks.

the pseudobulbs on my lindleyi used to look somewhat like yours (plumb and with white sheets) but smaller. I mounted with moss now the pseudobulbs looks yellowish and shivel, even after I water it. Does it need more water? please advice

Maybe that's the reason why dendrobiums are our favourite..

I got one of these at the hilo orchid show last year and it bloomed but not on the newer growth so it must be normal

yes, lindleyi blooms only on two year old (or older) growths.
