Defying France’s Hijab Ban on the Road to the Paris Olympics | Witness Documentary

Helene Ba's basketball dreams were shattered when the French Basketball Federation (FFBB) announced a nationwide ban on players competing in religious attire. Undeterred, she launches 'Basketball for All,' an inclusive movement to confront perceived religious discrimination in France and provide a safe space for Muslim women athletes.

As Paris prepares to host the Olympic Games, where all athletes representing France have been banned from wearing the hijab, Helene undertakes a city-wide mission to select players for a unique tournament. Together, Helene and the players hope to challenge the hijab ban in a defiant act of protest that will truly reflect the nation’s diversity.

Paris: Game Changers is a documentary film by Adriana Cardoso and Rodrigo Hernandez.

I'm a french atheist woman and I'm so tired of this... saying baning the hijab is for the protection of muslim girls is nonsense you don't protect with oppression. I don't see anything justifying baning the hijab in sport except islamophobia and racism. Why do we care if an athlete is wearing the hijab?!?
And for those who say "it's french law or you accept or you leave" how many people don't like some politics and laws in their own countries? you just say that because you don't consider french Muslim as french. Be honest and own your racist thoughts.

I know some muslim women that only wear the hijab when they go to traditional gatherings or to the mosque. If muslim women in France do this then I think this issue of the hijab wearing will die down.
