Thanks so much for sharing! I was just about to buy this for half price on Aliexpress, I think I'll have to find some other place to buy it now.

Poor you. I got one form my Authorized Distributor in Vietnam. It really nice, work perfectly. I cracking open it and it made by the top quality components such as Nichicon Capacitor, 3.2 A high quality transformer...

If you think you are going to get a genuine Hakko soldering station from AliExpress then you are sadly mistaken

If the product description said "high quality or style" means it is fake . The cheapest original Hakko fx888 is usd 70. So, if ship from China usd 70 + shipping... Do the maths

IMO, the best way to get a OFFICIAL HAKKO product would be to buy from a HAKKO dealer, and there are authorized Hakko dealers on ebay and amazon, the Hakko website furnishes a list by country of authorized dealers. i paid $96.00 american for my station, thru amazon, and the dealer was listed by Hakko, B+D Enterprises. I keep hearing people they got a fake, but it was much cheaper???? I have not even seen one complete station cheaper than that. and that was including free shipping.

if you buy it from aliexpress then its decided that its not a genuine hakko product, alot of stuff there are mostly imitations so buyer beware always

This may be the problem with mine as well. Further research has indicated that my unit is from an authorized dealer and yet the unit is so below subpar that they need to invent a new scale for this one.
I bought a hakko 888d off of Amazon. A total piece of shit. I have fried three elements in the unit. The last element was only used for less than 5 hours. I am honestly unsure whether it is a "fake" or Hakko has a value line of product that they have outsourced to some sort of slipshod manufacturer. All I know is I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER PRODUCT FROM THEM. MY Weller works great and I thought that I would like to have the better control of a digital readout boy was I mistaken. Ten years of flawless service from my weller and this turd has barely given me a year.

I'm sorry but NOTHING on Aliexpress is "legit". Anyone who buys from there should realize they are risking the possibility of a poor (or dead) product with NO support in exchange for saving some money. For some low-risk items that is an acceptable gamble. I personally would NOT risk it for anything that, if it malfunctions, could burn down my house! I have heard of hot-air SMD soldering stations "starting up" their heating elements with no outside control and WITHOUT also running the fan. Talk about high risk!
