I bought the M 07 sissipuukko few weeks ago. Don't have an old one to compare but it's really good, the saber grind comes down so nicely that it almost looks like an high scandi very nice and thin behind the edge. No sharp edges on the spine. It's still a military knife and from what i can tell a very good one. Tried to take some pictures of it today but my S24 ultra had trouble focusing on it because the damn thing is so black 😂. It's literally the blackest of all the black knives i own.... Like someone messed around with some vantablack in the mix.

Wowsers, that is one good looking knife. I really like everything about it. I’ve never handled any Peltonen knives but have almost pulled the trigger to buy the M07 a few times…but then I hear my Varusteleka Terävä (110 and 140) calling out to me and I just don’t imagine I’d be getting anything that much different or better. Then when I saw what you pulled out of the box here my hopes soared that I could justify a birch handled Peltonen… but then I heard my Brisa Troopers (95 and 115) in their gorgeous black birch handles and sexy red liners calling out to me… Dang! My knives have become jealous mistresses indeed! I guess I’ll continue remaining Peltonen free.😢😂 Happy Holidays, Tim!

Absolutely love all those Peltonen knives. I have eight of them but the uncoated M07 is my favourite. I am also generally more attracted to carbon steel blades with scandinavian style knives, because it imho allows for a more shallow edge angle, without the risk of breakouts compared to a stainless blade steel

That is a Sissipukko in name only. The originals were designed as they were for a good reason.
Another awesome knife may have just perished in trendy flames.

I think I agree with you, this new model is aimed at the segment of the market that wants the birchwood grips. Overall seems like a natural option for Peltonen to introduce, I wonder if all current leather sheaths no longer have the front strap for inverted carry? I have a leather sheath and the synthetic sheath that I use interchangeably on my M07 they are both excellent. Great video thanks for taking the time.

Only just got an M95, partly on your recommendation and so far I'm impressed with it. As regards your new purchase, sometimes it's nice to have a change from rubber and plastic. You know and like the blades, sounds all good to me and the knife is a looker!!!!

Hey Tim bro ! Firstly.. Happy Christmas and blessings to you and the Unni beastie ! 🐾🐾That's an awesome knife mate !! ..I love the wooden handle !!
..it has a sweet balance point !! ..that blade skeleton gives a good insight into the workings of an enclosed full tang.. superb !!
..that versatile sheath could save someones bacon in a really really cold environment.. talking of 'fat and rough and less polished'.. sounds like my ideal woman bro !! 😉😁
..perhaps Santa will bwing me my Cwimblemas dweam !! lol 🤣
Great review Tim bro ! ..like I said.. have an awesome Christmas dear friend !!

Great review and good looking knife. I bought the M95 about a year ago and the sheath no longer had the front attachment capability. I don't know when Peltonen got rid of it, but it has been some time.

Great looking knife, Tim! I’m sure that you’ll enjoy it, but I suspect that you are correct about it not offering much in the way of improvement over the original M07. As you suggest, it’s mostly esthetics aimed at well-heeled bush craft enthusiasts, although the 14c28n steel could offer some benefits in a wet environment. As others have mentioned, this has a Swedish, especially Casstrom vibe. I was thinking of the larger Swedish Forest Knife that I saw on Old Forest Bushcraft, or maybe the Lars Falt knife. I’m tempted, but am having a hard time justifying dumping another couple hundred into another knife, especially in my current situation (I’ve just recently retired). But I’m looking forward to seeing more from your review…

if there is one thing that could be improved on the otherwise very nice handles of the Sissipuukkos, it would be the addition of a more pronounced finger guard on the handle to prevent accidentally slipping into the razor sharp blade when handling the blade when you are tired or lack attention or fine motor skills during a potential emergency/survival situation.

I will be getting the 95 soon, they look a real useful tool.👍🏻

OK I like that knife! It looks in a way some what like the Casstrom, or the Joker Lynx knives, but beefier. I agree that the sheath should of been designed the same as the other one, more options like you said. Yeah, I know you had an issue with the Joker Puukko with curly birch, but that only had a partial 1/2 tang. I was surprised in the way it broke. I thought for sure it could take light batoning.

It seems the current release of all the Sissupuukko knives for sale online have that little sharpening choil on them. I wonder when that became the standard issue? Love the birch handle. I have the 80crv2 version of the blank you have. I'm hoping to put a handle on it shortly. I found it online for $20, I really couldn't pass it up. Take care

I have a gen 1 j.p m95 which has a full flat grind I'll be reviewing it after Xmas
I have found the older j.p knives which has the fiskars writing on the handle are way more comfortable then there new ones for some reason.
The ribs on the new ones I think are too harsh & the older ones are just right also the older ones are more rounded in the handle then the new ones.
I didn't like the newer j.p models with the rubber handles I like the older models same as yours
