I have had a 2005 S40 for 14 years, and it has been the best car I've ever owned. It's a manual, and as such, I will continue to drive it for as long as I can. It's quick but comfortable, not very sporty but fun enough, and it never lets me down. Brilliant car.

I have an S40 T5. Fantastic car. New gas pressure sensor, new engine mounts, control arms, front struts, shocks, replaced some of the cv boots. I had a mobile guy replace the headliner. Looks better than new. No brake issues, but I always do the brakes myself.

I own a 2005 v50 and it has had every single problem you explained on your video in the same order you talked about. It's hard to believe that with all advance in technology we still have that many issues. Thank you for the information.

Accurate. I bought my car brand new in '05 and have had all these issues including the headliner. I will say that they didn't really start until after 10+yrs though and I'm OK with that. It's wear and tear for me. I love my car!

Just bought an 05 S40 2.4i 5 speed as a winter beater. It's a really solid car so far. I have had to replace a few fuses that have blown and the headliner is slightly sagging but besides that excellent car.

Bought a 2008 S40 6 yrs ago for my sons First car. been a good car but yes, there are known things that will need to be replaced. So far I have done the following.

1. Changed out the Control Arms and ball joints
2. Headliner
3. Motor Mounts
4. Passenger side drive axel ( driver side is next)
5. Camshaft Barings. (As recommended, Water Pump, Belts and Timing Belt)
6. Shocks
7. Rear stabilizer mounts
8. Oil Filter Housing
9. Engine Coolant revivor container
10. AC clutch Shim fix ( Getting ready to replace the clutch next)
11. Oil Pan (My son cracked it on something he ran over)
12. Radiator Fan.

Sure more to come. but still a good car.

This is super helpful. Over the last year we have experienced several of these issues with my son's car.

Pretty accurate. I already replaced the headliner and a torn axle boot on my S40. Caught the boot early to where it only had a small pin hole so the joint wasn’t out of grease or any debris got inside. Thanks for the video!

Also, the main coolant hose that snakes around the engine and radiator. This is a one piece hose but has weak plastic connectors that split over time. Messy job to replace but can be done at home by a competent DIY mechanic. Quite a few videos out there already on this known issue

That was pretty much an essential video, overall

Great simple and very informative video. Thank you. I hear clunking noise coming from under driver's side front like it is hitting at the acceleration pedal, but just once after I move off on low gear 1st, 2nd after 10-15 seconds. I've changed brake pads but didn't lubricate the sliding pins as was rushing so will recheck. Could be also the mounts. Also my rear drivers's side caliper is stuck as disc is rusted so probably will end up with changing it but first will check the sliding pins.

If CV AXLE is not making noise and otherwise is working fine, Boot is all that needs replaced and they can get torn for various reasons It doesn't mean immediate replacement of Axle.

Grateful for the headliner tip. Spray adhesive. I thought the only option was full upholstery shop.

I already change the cv joints and the engine mounts on my S40. Easy fixes.

Wow my guy is angling to be the Volvo resource on YT. Quite successfully too I might add. If you could do the first gen S40 that would be cool.

Another issue is the water/rain Drain from the sunroof getting plugged backing up into the inside floor board
