Alan Scotthorne is the world's highest achieving coarse angler. Back in 2018, we joined him on the River Trent for a masterclass in waggler fishing.

Originally filmed for our 'Vimeo On Demand' series, Alan talked us through preparation, tackle and feeding as he put together a stunning net for the camera.

Enjoy!

Alan has such an easy manner in front of the camera and a gift for explaining things clearly and logically. Couple that with his knowledge, experience and abilities and he's a brilliant teacher. I always learn an enormous amount from his videos. Thanks for this.

Hi Tom when you watch Alan you realise why he has 5 world titles! His level of preparation and attention to detail is phenomenal! I could just sit and watch this poetry in motion for hours. Take care of yourself in this difficult time. Regards Bill

Creating these videos is no easy task, they're very much appreciated as ever, but especially so as we are all virtual fishing during these dark times. Mr 5x is an absolute legend. Stay safe one and all.

(Barnsley actually won the 2018 National) Great video Alan, very informative. I remember fishing the Caythorpe stretch many times in the late seventies and it was a lot more coloured then so stick float just passed the rod end was a killing method

Great stuff been waiting a while to see how Alan tackled the stretch as I know you filmed it early last summer. Brilliant insight into his meticulous approach and thoughts on the session.
Great video Tom.

Took me back to the 70s when you hiked 30 or 40 pegs to hopefully catch a few pounds and thought you’d done well. The bus ride home was the best part as a few beers and laughs made up for a young teenager eager to learn.

I have always wondered why Drennan has never made a good match/competition reel as opposed to their mediocre ones!..anyone know? Most of their other tackle is brilliant

regarding drennan float stops - love them, except for one gripe (which presumably would apply to any other brand's stops). i find that once i've removed the first one from a row, the wire hoop is then compressed & consequently it's a right pig to prise open again when it next comes to trying to remove the next one in the row. does anybody have a tip on how to avoid this happening, please?

nice subtle little tips there, that are the difference between winning and scratching.... id have been tempted to fish 8m to hand...or tried it at least..but yes i know its a waggler video.... very good i enjoyed that
