This session examines the role of AI in health equity: Enhancing Health Care with AI: Innovations in Detection Diagnosis, Drug Discovery and Personalized Medicine.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing health and medical care by improving diagnostics, decision support, treatment modalities, and patient care, with the potential to significantly improve health outcomes. However, AI tools also bring with them a variety of biases that may perpetuate inequities, often derived from data sources that include cognitive and/or societal biases. A primary challenge of AI and Generative AI will be to address the historical biases in algorithms through improved learning models in order to ultimately promote equity across diverse communities.

This panel was convened by David Lindeman and Gale Berkowitz from the University of California at Berkeley.

Moderator:
· Gale Berkowitz, CITRIS Health, Associate Director

Speakers:
· Courtney Lyles, UC Davis, Director, Center for Healthcare Policy and Research
· Adrian Aguilera, UC Berkeley, Associate Professor in the School of Social Welfare
· Veronica Ahumada-Newhart, UC Davis School of Medicine, Assistant Professor of Behavioral and Health Informatics, Department of Pediatrics

Now in its eighth year, the annual EDGE in Tech Symposium highlights the experiences of experts "Advancing Health Tech for All." #HealthTechforAll Panels span telehealth, IoT, medical imaging, sensors, and AI. The symposium was a great introduction to many of the ways technology is changing healthcare and promoting a greater healthspan for all. It also showcased jobs and roles for technologists in health and career paths the speakers took to get there. This event also features the EDGE in Tech Initiative Athena Awards, recognizing those who have championed the advancement of women and people of color in technology.

Thank you to the symposium sponsors and supporters: Siemens, Sandia National Labs, Berkeley Engineering, UC Davis College of Engineering, Baskin School of Engineering at UCSC, Bakar Fellows Program, IoT4Ag at UC Merced, and philanthropist Carla Itzkowich, who made a generous contribution in honor of her father.
