Twitter is a hellish snark-den populated by trolls, spambots, and Kardashians. Why would anyone purposefully spend time there? Well, the good news is you don't have to! In fact, you can delete your entire account to make it like you were never there at all.

Killing your Twitter-self is actually a very easy process. And there's even a 30-day grace period if you have second thoughts about your twittercidal tendencies 12 months if you are verified. You can just sign back into your account within 30 days to reinstate it and it will be like nothing happened. However, if you don't reinstate within that period, all your data will be permanently deleted from Twitter's servers. Erased.

It's very difficult to disappear from the internet.

Before you get started, know that if you want to make your username or email address available for re-use each Twitter account must be associated with a unique email address, change them via Settings before your account is permanently deleted. Also, keep in mind that when you change your email, you will need to confirm via an email link that will be sent to your new address.

If you'd like to preserve your pithy, 140-character musings, you can download your Twitter archive before ditching the service. Just navigate to Settings Your Twitter archive and click Request your archive. Twitter will email you a link when the file is ready to be downloaded; this process could take up to a few days.
