"Jeannie Oakes has been a strong influence on the direction of my career. I read Keeping Track as an undergraduate, so I was already inspired by her scholarship and analysis of how the organization of schooling interacts with classroom instruction to further inequity. While pursuing my masters at UCLA, I took her classes and was inspired by the incredible effort she put into teaching and developing students. She taught me that investing fully in one-on-one interactions is equally important to producing high-quality research and that both can be done well."
