Sold them for years. Saw them come in for service after thousands and thousands miles. Never saw any damage to any of the radiators. It's almost like Suzuki knew what they where doing when they built it. One of the most honest ADV made.

I want to thank y'all for this video. I live on the other side of the river from your shop. I stopped by to by the same gloves you're wearing, and saw the DL 1000 sitting in your store. I asked Kaleb (I think that's his name) about a video on the bike. I will tell my great grandchildren that is why you did this video.

Suzuki invented the adventure “beak”. Not the Germans!

I had a 2003 DL1000. Bought it used (with 410 miles on the clock) and sold it 95K+ miles later. And it's still going strong with its new owner. In 60+ years of riding, I have never had as much motorcycle for as little money as the VStrom. If it had a bigger alternator and shaft drive, I'd still have the bike.
Oh yeah - and I put a set of virtually indestructible Jesse bags on it.

A little history for you, Suzuki was the one to introduce and start the "beak" NOT BMW. Suzuki first introduced the beak in the late 80s on a Dakar competition bike, the DR Big.

A very good overview of the Vstrom. I have a 2014 1000 Vstrom, after owning several Beemers, Hondas, Kawasaki, I’m really
Enjoying the Suzuki and it’s versatility. Comfy ergos, great handling, lots of low end grunt and surprisingly quick! It does need,
many after market accessories to make it off road ready, but that’s part of the fun too. A lot of bang for your buck bike!

Nice to see some more videos! Love that you're still doing the words of wisdom as well.

I like how the front fender is long, so the radiator and the header wont get blasted with dirt

My 18 model (AL8) has been great ride, nothing beats a V Strom for reliability.
That said they have a few weak points:
Clutch chudder (design flaw) can send vibration through the whole bike usually between 3 & 4K, there’s an aftermarket engineering fix that’s permanent - odd that Suzuki hasn’t changed the design of the clutch basket / bearing interface to remedy.
The standard screen is usually replaced by most owners (turbulence)
The standard halogen headlight isn’t the best, but you can change the entire unit for around £350 (same in USD)
Corrosion can be an issue if you don’t stay on top of it.
Valve clearance checks every 15000 miles
Good fuel consumption/ tank range over 200 miles
The bike really handles the twisties
It’s top heavy when you’re moving it around by hand (easy to drop)
High seating position
On the face lift models 2018 onwards electronically linked braking system
Cornering ABS
ABS pumps cost around £2000, so make sure you purge old brake fluid out of the pump, two ways of doing this - over 18mph lock back and front brakes independently activate ABS, change fluid, and repeat and repeat and repeat, or have the dealer purge the system by electronically activating the ABS pump.
They can be snatchy under 3000 rpm (fuelling) ensure the the throttle bodies are sync’d up, or you can fit a booster plug (easy and comparatively cheap) which improves things no end.
The later 1050 model is an improvement on the 1000 in lots of areas, but they have changed the character of the engine, more rev happy, not as torquey low down (max torque developed at 6000 rpm instead of 4000 rpm)

In 2020 I bought a new 2019 Vstrom 650 XT adventure. My fiancée really liked it so she bought a 2016 Vstrom 1000 XT which she dropped twice in my cousins gravel driveway twice with no damage. We ended up trading in part because the weight and my ego wouldn't allow her to have a faster bike so I was going to buy a 2020 1050XT. With 2" ROX risers and peg lowering kits they are great long distance bikes with light to moderate capabilities. Great bikes at a great price in my humble opinion.

Glad to see a video so soon after the goodbye episode 😘.
The abs doesn't need any aftermarket hack..you .just pull out the ABS fuse at the same time as you are letting some air out when you get off the road and on the trail...
The luggage...it's not 1997 any more. Soft luggage is the way to go for offroading.

Bought my 14 DL1000 specifically because I like touring, but camp and explore in remote areas. The DL is awesome onroad, but still decent offroad. It isnt an Africa Twin but it is a lot more comfortable and faster on road.
