Mark Knopfler - Bluebird

Lyrics
Got crows in my pasture
Rats in my barn
Crows in my pasture, babe
Rats in my barn
If I was you, little bluebird
I'd up and find another farm

I've got nightshade in my meadow
Ragweed in my corn
Nightshade in my meadow
And ragweed in my corn
If I was you, little bluebird
I'd be long gone

Yes, I got squirrels in my rafters
Weevils in my hay
Squirrels in my rafters
Weevils in my hay
If I was you, little bluebird
I'd up and fly away
Fly away, baby

On Privateering, his seventh solo outing, Knopfler has crafted his most ambitious and pugnacious collection of songs to date, going all in on a two-disc set that pits all of the aforementioned influences against each other without ever succumbing to the convenience of their architectures.

Never heard this song before! Love it. Mr Knofler always at his best. Humble lyrics as usual and so gracious...
Thank you for posting🙂!

Poignant, all the more with the pictures of lovely Françoise Dorléac, Catherine Deneuve's sister. She died, only 25, in a car accident, along with her dog, just when she was starting a blooming career. Unforgettable as the mistress in "La Peau Douce". Her fiancé Jean-Claude Brialy was heartbroken, as all her fans as well. RIP beautiful Françoise, and thank God there's musci for consolation.

Like the Irish, the Bluebirds, too, hang around for the truer pleasures in pain. The very essence of the Blues.
A magnificent tune, Brother Don.

Knopfler makes me want to always stick around and suffer along with him for some fantastic, crazy-ass reason... #BRILLIANT

Thrill is gone, thrill is gone away from me...

Harmony is like a blossoming flower. Very old school.
4/4 simple time signature is quite unique among the blues scene, unlike compound.
Cha cha cha rhythm is unique in a positive way. Gives more positive pace.
Lyrics are not always understandable, which has its pros and cons, but more of a negative thing.
I’d give guitar solo at the beginning 9/10.
Lyrics meaning is self-degrading, which is more of a con, but could be ok with blues fans.
The metaphors are top notch.
Singing is not too passionate, but has room to breathe.
Song gives the vibe of an old man who reminisces the good old days.
The song is 10 years old. I would say 600k. This doesn’t cut 1 million.
P.S. 1.2 million wow, i must have underestimated the instrumentals

Somehow Don's Tunes ended up on my playlist. It is as far from my normal music as it's possible to get.

I love Don's Tunes. Always the best stuff.

Knopfler was ranked 27th on Rolling Stone's list of 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time. His vocals are best described by the German term Sprechgesang - not exactly singing, but not exactly talking. And he uses the guitar as if it were his second "voice", and he does it just excellent!  It seems that he alone knows the secret of miserable tenderness.

I hear the spirit of Peter Green in this beautiful piece.
