Jaw-dropping Charles! To have a car from 1959 that mint in 2022 is beyond belief. Stunning machine.

I would say this DeSoto, was the best looking of all the 1959 Chrysler lineup.

It's beautiful. I attended Western Illinois University in Macomb IL from 1994 to 1997. And Brown chrysler Plymouth was still operating then. My older sister has worked for the university there since 2001 in the provost office.

When I was a kid, these types of cars were grandpa cars. That's how we viewed them. Today I'm a grandpa so I love it LOL. Weird how life is.

...oh, Charles...you've really found a "national treasure"...indeed...

...this is a truly rare DeSoto Firesweep, an entry-level model which was built on 122- inch wheelbase (same as the Dodge Coronet, Plymouth Belvedere and Chrysler Windsor; and thus was 4 inches shorter than its senior DeSoto Firedome, FireFlite and Adventurer...and except for the frint and rear clip, it shared the same body panels, windows and interior demensions with the Coronet, Belvedere and Windsor...

...as with these other Chrysler cousins, this Firesweep featured a significant palette of interior vinyl and sculpted nylon cloth textures and colors...indeed, the dealer sales brochures declared, "...every stitch, every bit of fabric is carefully tailored to give you smart new beauty and durability..."...in its "Fashion-Vogue" interiors...

...for anyone born after the mid-60's, the level of decoration in this base model car seems over the top, though by late 50's standards...it was considered rather austere...

...touting its 361cid/75.9L "TurboFlash" V8, "TorsionAire" suspension and "Safe Stop" brakes and " Flare Stream" styling..features costing hundreds extra on many competitive cars...and yet, "...priced scarcely above the lowest..."...

...the Firesweep was also offered in a 2-door Sportsman coupe and 4-door Hardtop, a convertible and a pilarred four door Shopper 6-seater station wagon...

...the rotating "Safety Color Accuribbon" speedometer was green in color under 30 mph, white between 30 and 50 mph, and red beyond 50 mph...

...the rear suspension featured automatic load levelling cushions termed " Level- Cruise Ride..."...

...the featured sedan in Lagoon Blue with white side spear insets represents the final Firesweep...for the die had already been cast to eliminate the DeSoto from the Chrysler family of motorcars...

...as a consequence of its being viewed as much more utilitarian that its upmarket models, a great many of these models were never allowed to sleep in the garage....and thereby exposed to the elements, very few even survived; much less in the pristine condition of Charles's example...

...oh, yes, my mid-century guru...this is a rarely seen...and never replicated "...mid-century masterpiece of the first order..."....I

What a killer car! A ‘59 Impala is also a favorite.

Charles, this 59 DeSoto is absolutely gorgeous, I'm sure it will sell quickly!!! It reminds me of the painting I saw in the seventies showing a pink & white model on a hill overlooking a river. It's titled "DeSoto Discovers The Mississippi' 🙂

A beautiful example. My favorite entry into the ' 59 Chrysler line up. Also like the Plymouth Belvederes and the Dodge Custom Royals. But the Firesweep had such great, clean lines and a comparatively uncluttered look... certainly for the late '50s .

Never knew the door trim was called, “Wind Lace.” I was schooled today!

What a pristine beauty with barely even any patina! I’ve never heard this said about a car BUT SO TRUE! — “How much do you love those jack instructions?!”

Wow, what a beauty. Had the 361 in my 64 Newport. Plenty of power!

Unbelievable! My grandfather had a 1958 Firedome sedan. Americans used to believe that cars should be fun, and even slightly outrageous.

I love the name “Desoto”. It conjures the era for some reason.
