Hungary with a golden generation and great team-effort, Scottland with some stars and also great team-effort, out of form Switzerland, but with huge improvements lately and the host Germany with it's loser-generation but improvements lately and absolute legends like Neuer, Kroos, maybe Müller playing their potentially last euro.

If you don't know, Scotland in Euro 1996 is the closest time they made through the KOs of the major tournament. After losing 0-2 to England, they must pray England win with a big margin and not conceded a single goal while Scottish must beat Switzerland. The Scottish did so by beating Switzerland 1-0, while at the same time, England were surprisingly 4-0 up against the Netherlands at Wembley. However, the Netherlands scored a goal in 78th minute to knock the Scottish out of the Euro with an overall goals (as both H2H and goal differences between the Netherlands and Scotland were tied up). It might be a huge result if Scotland ended up facing France instead in the quarterfinal (and even knock them out).

I disagree, Scotland's best performance was in Euro92. There was only 8 teams and they beat the CIS. Scotland effectively has a quarter final placing.
