Indian cities of Bengaluru and Delhi are going through an enormous water crisis. The rising heatwaves and scorching summers are affecting our country's water security. Ensuring water security is imperative for the growth and development of a country and its people. This will require focus on increasing the supply of water, through
rainwater harvesting and ensuring that the millions of groundwater systems are recharged;
It also means rethinking the way cities draw water from longer and longer distances, which adds to loss of water and higher cost and so unaffordability. It requires stressing on the need to recycle
every drop of wastewater so that we do not destroy our rivers; this in turn means redesigning our sewage systems so that they are affordable and so sustainable.

Watch the full episode to understand the challenges caused by growing water crisis and how we can mitigate the risk.

Correct, water crisis has already started. In Faridabad a small town in NCR, neo rich have a fleet of ACs and private cars, and they get the vehicles washed with running water irrespective of surmounting crisis. We have to purchase drinking water on daily basis. It is looming and most probably, by next year, both water and power crises will cross all limits; however poor would be the sufferers, not the rich!!!

Maam, Dr.Jayalalitha had made it compulsory that all houses above 1200sqft plot in cities and towns in tamilnadu have to dig a 5 ft x 5ft x 5ft Recharge pit and all the outlet pipes of terraces in these houses should send the rain water to this recharge pit which has helped recharge tamilnadu cities ground water. All houses those days had wells and not borewells. Delhi people should start digging wells in their houses.she made people dig pits and made it a success with a clause that if recharge pit is not dug and approved by corporation office then cauvery drinking water connection in that house will be disconnected.

Report that opened my eyes. Knew something was not covered in media. Thanks DTE. .

I believe antinatalism and childfree is ultimate peace 😊. The rivers and pond we worship are in bad condition by same people.

🎉 I am doing rainwater harvesting at my level, I am trying to be off-grid in mid of urbanization. 😊

We are in a waste producing era. The more waste we produce the more we pollute our environment and results we face. A new system is required

I don’t understand why people fight over water, yet local governments do nothing to stop businesses that consume massive amounts of it to produce cold drinks, alcoholic beverages, and bottled water. These industries use tons of water every day.

Just imagine how many bottles are stocked in retail stores and how much more is stored in warehouses. This is nothing less than modern-day Kala Bajari — black marketing of water. Why don’t this companies take sea water and purify to drinking water as they make huge profits. This companies let you guys fight each other for water keep producing water based product that led you to diabetes thyroid etc. think about it…

An eye opener for every individual and all administrators many of us know and are facing all the issues pointed but very little or say negligible percentage is getting implemented. Important is to start practicing by individuals instead of looking at others or the government to do for us.

we have to integrate watersheds based on topography to prevent excess water coming from upstream and even recharge water coming in downstream into rivers to allow exit of flood water. we are facing this issue in Vadodara where upstream, in city and downstream needs to be integrated

Well stated! There are possibilities in line with your view point of closed loops in every area. There must be a will to get into it!

Already started to face water crisis here in Kolkata. I have municipal ganga water connection. Still. We will have water from 6:30 am to 2 pm and then from 4:30 pm to 12pm and then whole night no water. I paid 65 lakhs for this flat, yet have to face such problems. This problem didn't exist last year, started this yr in 2024 itself. I pay 2 lakhs in income tax every year, yet have to face such issues. No wonder rich people leave this country. I am too planning to leave for the US or Australia in the next few years, u get taxed like developed countries but get no benefits of developed country.

We should also relook at the cultivation of water intensive crops like Rice and Sugarcane which are depleting our ground water and also intensifying climate change
