Golden Coyote HEAT Simulator (Humvee Rollover)

I wanted to see for myself how effective the Humvee Egress Assistance Trainer (HEAT) is for preparing National Guard troops what to do if they are in a vehicle rollover. So I made arrangements to observe a training session at West Camp Rapid.

The trainer looks like a full-size Humvee body (without wheels or the hood) that spins on a rotisserie.

Two factors make this extremely important training for National Guard troops like those participating in Golden Coyote to have.

First, motor vehicle crashes account for one-third of all military fatalities each year. Second, the Humvee, a mainstay of ground forces transportation, has a high center of gravity, which makes it prone to rollovers.
