while installing express i am getting 50 packages extra other than express, and when i uninstall it only the express package is removed other 49 packages are as it is

So i mainly develop web applications with PHP using symfony 3 framework. Gotten quite good with it though. However, i want to add real time functionality to my web applications. Is there a way to link PHP apps with node.js? If not, kindly recommend a tech to use side by side with Symfony that can bring real time functionality.
