Florida residents slogged through flooded streets, gathered up scattered debris and assessed damage to their homes on Friday after Hurricane Milton smashed through coastal communities and spawned a barrage of deadly tornadoes.

At least eight people were dead, but many expressed relief that Milton wasn’t worse. The hurricane spared densely populated Tampa a direct hit, and the lethal storm surge that scientists feared never materialized. Gov. Ron DeSantis warned people to not let down their guard, however, citing ongoing threats to safety including downed power lines and flooded areas.

I live in Florida now but I live on the Southeastern side of the state that faces the Atlantic Ocean in Palm Beach I wasn't hit by the hurricane, only a heavy tropical storm which is way heavier than how it rains in Seattle. Glad you all in Seattle are covering this. When your in the same state were the S***t is hitting the fan it makes you so sad that you want to cry. I don't have much but the poor people who were slammed by Milton have lost everything: No power, homes destroyed. Keep Florida in your thoughts & prayers. I kind of miss my old home of Seattle.
