Disney’s “Artemis Fowl,” based on the beloved book by Eoin Colfer, is a fantastical, spellbinding adventure that follows the journey of 12-year-old genius Artemis Fowl, a descendant of a long line of criminal masterminds, as he seeks to find his father who has mysteriously disappeared. With the help of his loyal protector Butler, Artemis sets out to find him, and in doing so uncovers an ancient, underground civilization—the amazingly advanced world of fairies. Deducing that his father’s disappearance is somehow connected to the secretive, reclusive fairy world, cunning Artemis concocts a dangerous plan—so dangerous that he ultimately finds himself in a perilous war of wits with the all-powerful fairies.

“Artemis Fowl” is directed by Kenneth Branagh and stars Ferdia Shaw, Lara McDonnell, Josh Gad, Tamara Smart, Nonso Anozie, Josh McGuire, Nikesh Patel, Adrian Scarborough and Miranda Raison, with Colin Farrell and Judi Dench. Kenneth Branagh, p.g.a. and Judy Hofflund, p.g.a. are producing with Angus More Gordon and Matthew Jenkins serving as executive producers. Conor McPherson and Hamish McColl wrote the screenplay.

The books, especially the first 4, are so much fun.

This movie had none of that fun.

Yeah, for not having read the books, they could have taken their time setting up the universe more. The narration by Josh Gad was just awful (so was he in the movie). They should have done a 5 minute cgi intro of his dad telling him a story that sets up the whole fae underworld, kinda like they did in Hellboy2.
And why not drop some hints to who the shadow person, Opal Koboi is? Is it his mother? If not, why should we care?
The fairy, Holly Short was the only redeeming thing about this movie.
I agree, it should have been a series or even a cartoon.

Easily my worst movie of the year so far. Terrible script, bad acting with such talented actors and actresses and I can easily see why they put this on Disney Plus. Imagine if we saw this in theaters?

After seeing the movie, I needed the read the book again. Ch 1 is super critical in establishing Artemis as a criminal mastermind. Low and behold this part is the first deleted scene.

I'm a fan of the books and own them all even the graphic novels but this movie was just bad Idk why they changed the story

Haven't read the books but I thought this movie was pretty kinda bad. My main gripe is for a film that's supposed to set up a franchise it's way too short and the characters aren't really well thin. The script and editing is pretty messy. This should've been at least 2 hours or 2 and a half hours. But the acting and direction is fine.

Tho I never read the books, even heard of them until you told me about them, I could feel your pain.
It's weird to see a movie working so well in certain aspects due to the talente behind the camera to make it come to live. But having such fundamentally broken foundations just had it crumble from beginning to end

Never read the books and i found it awful. Nothing i found remotely redeeming other then 1 genuine chuckle i had and Josh Gad despite being bad tried to add energy and charisma to the film. The lead kid is laughably bad im sad to say it and in terms of writing and editing nothing makes sense. And it had some really weird visuals to. I hated wrinkle in time in 2018 this was just as bad i felt. 1/10 for me. It sucks because this was my 40th 2020 movie and sadly it might be my worst. If it were on last years list of the 130 movies i saw it would rank bottom 5. My cousin also watched it and he loves the books and he said it was awful and hard to follow to so. I expect no one to really enjoy it

Holly Short is definitely the main character and much more interesting than Artemis. I would add at least another half hour for her story and chop out as much of Artemis as possible.

Saw it last night as I wanted to see what it was like. By god it was the worst1 hour and 35 minutes of my life.
Couldn't wrap my head around it. The cinematography was really good but everything else was just blah

Josh Gad was like a mixture of Hagrid with Batman's voice.

I love the books. I really tried to get through the movie, but I kept checking the run time to see if it was almost over, and I couldn’t quite make it halfway through. I have nothing positive to say about the movie. It’s garbage. It’s a slap in the face. I’ll just go read the books again.

You know how Dreamworks does that thing where they kind of remake a Disney film sometimes well.... I would give them all my cookies if they did that with artimis forel and made it good
